No -any decent reception class teacher will know there is a range of ability/ages and will be able to adapt accordingly .

No. Lots of children will be Summer borns. Some of the Autumn borns will struggle to begin with. Trust the school you've chosen!

Generally it should be required. He won't keep pace with the older children but that's expected. A good teacher will work with this in mind. Good luck

I meant tuition should not be required!

I really don't think you need to pay a tutor! If you want to give him a bit of a leg up just help him yourself! The very early stuff is not rocket science.

I am a teacher but TBH DS (late August born- 20mo at the moment) has learned numbers 1-10 by watching numtums and about 30 of the 44 phonic sounds from a BBC DVD. According to him he can also draw a tractor. HmmGrin

I'm much more worried if he'll be wiping his own bum/ coping without a nap/ able to do his own shoes/ able to stil still long enough not to destroy circle time when he starts school. Don't think there is a tutor for that. Grin

That's a really fair point ebdteacher. Wasnt there a thread on general skills (eg able to go to toilet, eating skills etc) for reception kids which seems much more relevant than the academic stuff
