A couple of times now ive had to sign the accident book as my son has been scratched by a teacher. I have had a word and said about them cutting their nails as they do work with children and it is not on!

Today i turn up at school, my son is distraught and has a very deep scratch on his face near his eye again done by a teacher! They had said he was not listening about getting into the que for coats and had run the opposite way when a teacher had tried to catch him and put him in line.

I really dont know what to do the scratch looks awful and im really upset by this! All help needed

4th time by the same teacher? i'd scratch the bitch back!

In all seriousness once or twice can be an accident but the 4th time i wouldn't allow them near my child again. I dont think they should be working with children.

LadySybilDeChocolate · 24/04/2012 17:34

They shouldn't blame your child for this, they need to cut their nails! I'd complain to those higher up. I hope your child is OK.

thisisyesterday · 24/04/2012 17:36

wow, i would be really pretty angry.

i've had children in a nursery for the last 4.5 years and never has one EVER been hurt by a member of staff, even accidentally.

so 4 incidents of scratching would have me pretty fucking angry

Codandchops · 24/04/2012 17:37

No this is unacceptable, they work with young children FFS so they need to have short nails. Either they are in the wrong job or your DS is in the wrong nursery.Sad

Longdistance · 24/04/2012 17:38

Spk with the head. It's unacceptable 4 her 2 have such long nails. Hope ur ds is ok?

I would be making a VERY forceful complaint if I were you....

4th time???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is there a possibility it isn't accidental?

Rubirosa · 24/04/2012 17:40

So, so unacceptable, I work in a nursery and my son goes to another nursery, and I have never heard of any adult scratching a child!

lessa2 · 24/04/2012 17:43

This is unacceptable. They should have a procedure in place for reviewing accidents and they should already have picked this up as an issue themselves and taken some action.

I think you should put a complaint in writing to the Pre-School Manager. They should have a procedure for investigating and then responding with action within a defined timescale. If, ultimately, are unhappy with the action that they have taken (or not taken), you can complain to Ofsted.

I would also take pictures.

PleaseChooseAnotherNN · 24/04/2012 17:57

I would also complain about this. If she has scratched one child 4 times she surely must be scratching others too.

I accidentally scratched Dd this morning but so these things do happen but 4 times is beyond a joke.

3littlefrogs · 24/04/2012 18:03

I am a nurse, and for the last 35 years I have kept my nails short. It goes with the territory. I would expect a teacher working with small children to have a modicum of common sense and cut her nails after the FIRST accident.

yousankmybattleship · 24/04/2012 18:04

Definitely complain. I have scratched my own children once or twice by accident, but never seriously. I have never heard of it happening in a school though where adults don't have such close or frequent contact. Either her nails are far too long, she has a ring or other piece of jewellery that she needs to remove or she is a violent psycho fruitcake!

5madthings · 24/04/2012 18:06

5 children here and i have managed to never scratch one with my nails, the elder three have been to pre-school and school and never been scratched either.

have you seen the teachers nails are they long? does he/she have snaggy nails that are more likely to scratch?

seriously that is NOT ok!
