My almost 3-year old is not talking in preschool

My dd, 3 in May, has been going to preschool sessions since January, so for 4 months. Her key worker has mentioned that she is finding it difficult to fill in the EYFS forms for her because she doesn't talk there. Needless to say she doesn't stop talking at home and I have no concerns whatsoever about her level of communication. The nursery she goes to is fairly large, and from what I have seen her key worker spends a lot of time with the children who are upset when they arrive, my DD just walks in and gets on with it. Anything to worry about? I think not, but was made to feel a bit bad/concerned.

Some children decide not to talk in nursery. I only had one case of it a few years ago. We knew her language was fine as she talked with her mum before coming in. She spent a year with us and didn't say a word with the exception of one day. She came in and told us she was going to talk and was an incredible chatterbox the whole day.
Google "Selective mutism" for more info. I believe the daily mail just did an article about it.
Don't put any pressure on her. She'll talk when she wants. The nursery might want a home visit to check her language.

Thoroughly agree with above post. I was an advisory teacher across pre-schools and nurseries etc for 15 years. Saw this many times and only on one occasion did it become a problem when the child continued with it into school.

My youngest would not speak at playgroup, to anyone. When she started school we warned the teacher that she may have a problem getting her to talk but they can't shut her up! Guess she just got into the habit at playgroup.

Don't worry, she will be observing it all.
