What to do?

DS has been rejected from prep school he was enrolled to.

He's not on any other waiting lists.

Gutted :-(

why has he been rejected?
can you enrol him elsewhere?
is this pre-school or prep school?

Nocluebomboo · 05/03/2012 18:43

Pre prep.

Yes, loking to enrol him elsewhere, but have left it late and I guess we have to admit he's been rejected here.

Rejected for not wanting to comply to tasks. No question about ability. Just desire to conform.

You've had a lucky break.

I wouldn't want to send a 3 year old to somewhere they are supposed to 'conform'

Nocluebomboo · 05/03/2012 18:46

Thanks :-) I'm trying to look at it like that.

But, I don't know what alternatives I have right now. Have missed the (already oversubscribed!) state schools :-(

Is it nursery or reception entry?

Can you keep him at existing pre-school/nursery (if he is at one)?

Was it a total rejection,or are you on a waiting list? In some places there is a lot of churn, and ad hoc places do come up. It may also be worth looking again at any other private schools to see if they have vacancies or if you can join a wait list.

Finally, you need to make a late application for a reception place at a state school. You have to be offered a place, but it will be at the school nearest to you which still has a vacancy. You might even get a stroke of luck and find a bulge class is added to an acceptable school near you. You can also join the waiting lists for the state schools you do like.

Has he been asked to leave because of not wanting to conform?
Or has he not been given a place?
Your op is not to clear.
If it is the first, count your lucky stars, I too would not want to send my three year old child to that setting.

Nocluebomboo · 08/03/2012 15:50

Sorry, he has not been given a place.

Well done him! That attitude/behaviour is difficult for a parent but is a really good outlook to have as he grows older!

Do you know some other parents in the area (esp parents with slightly older kids) - there's bound to be an independent pre prep or nursery school/s around that other parents know of that is/are right for him. Hmm, most independent schools I know for 3 and 4 year olds are quite happy to let children "do their own thing" until they are old enough (usually about halfway through the year, sometimes earlier) to want to do what others are doing. (Within reason of course- as long as it's not something dangerous). And if they are tired or want to just lie down and be quiet there are cushions and comfy areas for them to do so too. You can still apply for a state place as a late application - sometimes a place does come up. It's free to apply (might even be possible to do online depending on which area you live in) so you may as well put in an application, just for peace of mind.
