Improving child's concentration with tasks

Spoke with nursery teacher yesterday about whether my ds should go to primary school in August (I live in Scotland) he will be 5 at the end of September so age wise he is in a good position. Nursery teacher is concerned that James cannot cope with primary school as he finds it hard to concentrate/persevere with primary school work without tremendous support/encouragement/cajolling.
Does anyone have suggestions for games/websites/strategies for improving this for my son?
If the nursery does not think he is ready for primary school in the summer then I will be guided by them and keep my son back but want to help him as much as possible if it's just a case of putting in a little effort.
At home if he does not want to change clothes/go to the toilet/go to bed/leave the house etc., he will throw a temper tantrum which I thought would have lessened at this stage.
His temperament is not being helped at the moment by not going to sleep when being put to bed at 7.30 - 8pm he could still be rolling around his room and playing until 10pm. When he was in his cot he would settle quickly so he has done so in the past but the move to bed seems to have put that off-track.

Any suggestions on that front as well?

Ask them for suggestions and specifics about the reasons for his inattention; ie behavioural/developmental/social/academic/. Is it just a result of immaturity? Its hard for you to target support without a clearer picture of the reasons underlying his needs.
Do they think anything else should be looked at by the Educational Psychologist?
Good luck x
