Do I send DD to nursery with few girls but excellent rep or lots of girls with ok rep?

Current debating this at the mo and would really appreciate your imput.

I am faced with the option of sending dd to a nursery that has an excellent rep but for some reason the class that she would be entering only has a hand full of girls. Alternatively, I have visited other settings and found two others that I think are ok with a large number of girls for her to befriend, but in no way matches the rep of my preferred choice.

I suppose the question is how important are same sex friendships at the age of 3?

Is preparing your child for reception learning more important than friendships at this age? (note: my preferred setting which has a heavy boy ratio, ensure all children learn all their phonics, numbers, etc and proactively encourage early reading).

Which would you choose and why?

For my DD I would choose the girly one
Because she infinitely prefers to play with girls
And because learning phonics etc and early reading are to be avoided IMO.

I'd choose the one with a good reputation. A handful of girls at 3, I don't see as a problem. May even help avoid the all pervasive pink and glittery crap girls this age start being indoctrinated by.

I would chose the one you think is better. But my response is skewed, I suppose, because my DD is also 3 (& also starting nursery in Sept) & I don't see a need in her to have female friends at this age.

you are over thinking it. I would go with one i preferred.
Boys easier to be friends with.

I think it is unduly limiting to your child to have choice of nursery made by sex of others enrolled there at any one particular time.

I'm not even sure what the boy/girl ratio is at DDs nursery. She has good friends there who are boys and has made friends with some girls as well.

I don't think it matters at 3 TBH.

Go with the one you prefer.

Thanks for all the great responses! The majority of you all kinda reinforced what I already thought. Am sure she will do well no matter what, but a least now I will know that I have placed her in the right setting to kick start her learning in a years time.
