Tricky Question for new Reception Teacher in September

My DS is due to start school in September and from what I can gather seems to be quite bright. Hurrah - at last!!
How do I ask the reception teacher that I want him to be stretched without sounding pushy?
BTW I'm not pushy I just don't want him to get bored.

He will have a lot of new routines etc to cope with so just let him settle in at first and then maybe speak to the teacher about it after he has had some time to get used to school.

I always thought DD was very bright and was repeatedly told this at preschool. As it turns out, she is very bright but so are at least 6 other children in her class so she has had a great experience at school so far as they all work together in a group and really spur each other on. You may find the same thing happens for your DS, but you will have to wait and see!

DD also turned out to struggle a little with the social side of things so we concentrated our energy there during reception and Y1. She's now in Y2 and very happy and getting on very well academically still.

Thanks shrinkin, some really good advice there. Its not all about the academic side.

I would let him settle in for the first term before you say anything. As shrinking has already said, the settling in and socialisation skills they learn to start with are just as important if not more so. Just remember everything he does from the moment he walks through the door will be a new experience - even down to going to the loo in unfamiliar surroundings - quite exhausting I'd say.

Once he is settled you will be able to judge much better if he is bored/being stretched or not.

Have fun and enjoy - wish mine were back in Reception some times!

I know nometime, Reception is such a special stage.
I'm really looking forward to doing it for the second time.

If your little one is coming from a nursery they will send a booklet about your childs progress and when they hit the milestones on it so should know from that what children are at what stage
