teacher off sick, what to do?

My DS attends PT nursery and for a while the teacher has been off sick. When we arrive there is always one TA and random other new faces. We've had no communication about when his teacher is coming back let alone that she's off sick. Would it be normal practice for the school to inform parents if a teacher is off sick long term? I obviously don't want to know the ins and outs of why she's off but would like to know who will be teaching my son. None of the TAs know what's happening. At the moment there's no continuity and no communication. I really want to have a chat with the head, but I don't want to cause more problems for DS?s teacher if she's really unwell.

The "random other new faces" are likely to being covering teachers or supply.

i dont think that it is a question of causing more problems for the teacher at all.

i would say to the head- can you clarify who is acting in the class teachers place whilst she is away, so i know who it is to speak to etc. Most schools (if it is a nursery class in a school) do try to use the same cover teachers where they can but clearly this is not always possible.

i would say it would be normal for parents to be informed in advance of planned absence (such as an operation) and to be told about arrangements. in the case of unplanned absence, i would think that they would say once they know how long it is going to be or after 2 weeks or so.
