Funded hours

For personal reasons I will be withdrawing my DD from the state nursery she's currently attending. Instead she will attend a private nursery for the term after Easter and then in September she'll start Reception at the school to which the nursery I'm withdrawing her from, is attached to (what a mouthful!!).

So my question is, am I allowed to claim my daughter's 15 funded hours from the private nursery? I know they run the scheme; My question is more to do with the fact that she had a place at a state nursery and I'm withdrawing her by choice.

If I can claim the 15 hours, how do I go about it?

Many thanks

Yes, you can. You need to contact the LA. The nursery should have forms however it doesnt convert exactly to 15hrs. Because of the holidays etc so in essence I only got 1 whole day free and had to pay for the other two he attended.

DS2 will also do private nursery due to the silly hours state offer plus its great on the odd day when you need to go to a meeting/funeral etc I can just drop him off.

I found the private education at nursery far superior especially in pre-school to the state one.

Hi bacon, thanks for your reply. I am not sure I understand. If you get one whole day free, wouldn't that more or less equate to the 15 hours rebate you get? My dd will be doing 3 sessions of 5 hours each and 2 sessions of 3 hours each, so wouldn't I end up paying just the 6 hours?

As for your other comments, I wholeheartedly agree!!!!

yes, at my dds private nursery, where the child is attending term time only then you would only pay for 6 hours in the pattern you describe for the 38 weeks. you would also have to pay for lunch etc. as my dd goes for 4 full days a week all year round, they add up the entitlement per year and divide it by 12 and deduct it so that it is the same payment each month (it is a very helpful nursery)

One thing I would say is check when forms are handed in. So basically you can use your entitlement at the new setting for next term, just make sure they apply for your funding and NOT the current nursery. Depending on where you are you might have to say why you are moving, but not all LEA's require this. Also (and this might be an area thing), you can only claim up to 6hrs a day, which is why it doesn't cover a whole session in some cases.

Mrsdoasyouwouldbedoneby thank you so much, I never thought of that. Thank you.
