I think you're allowed to be, providing that it couldn't in any way be construed that you're being paid to be on the committee.

So for example, someone who's paid to do the administration and payroll at a preschool couldn't also sit on the committee as Treasurer.

In practice, I don't think staff are on committees very often. In my setting, there are three staff (including me) who attend committee meetings to give a staff view, but we don't vote on anything.

Hope this helps.

You'd have to check your constitution also - your company secretary should be able to advise - or the PLA.

I think that members of staff can attend committee meetings, but are not able to be actual members of the committee, and wouldn't have a vote on any decisions. Our CBEST gave us advice on a similar issue.

Hi, not sure if too late to answer this, hopefully not.

It depends which constitution you are signed up to. The PLA 2005 one states that staff members are not allowed to be on the committee, but this changed with the latest 2008 one in that they are, but are not allowed to attend the part of the meeting, or vote, where staff pay issues are being discussed. This was the main reason we changed to the 2008 one, so that we now have 2 members of staff on our committee.
