Red Riding Hood too scary for two-year-old??

My two-year-old daughter came home from nursery today saying the 'big bad wolf is going to catch me' and when I asked her what she meant she said 'Little Red Riding Hood book'. She didn't seem worried about it but I'm concerned that this could be quite scary for a child her age. I am really easily scared myself (by books, films, being in the house on my own at night!) so may just be projecting my own fears... What does anyone else think?

The original versions of many fairy tales were seriously scary. However, most of them have been watered down or made less scary in recent years.
It really depends which version of the story the nursery workers read. For example, some merely have Granny being put in a cupboard by the wolf and rescued by the woodcutter. He never eats anyone.
It's hard to judge without knowing which version it was, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a toned down version for children of that age.

I think it really varies depending on the child. Also, it is very hard to predict what will frighten any given child. So for instance ds1 loved Goldilocks, 3 Billy Goats Gruff and Rumplestiltskin from 18 mo onward, was a bit nervous of Little Red Riding Hood and downright terrified of Ali Barber and the 40 thieves (all from the same anthology of children's stories).

I agree it can depend a lot on the child. My 7 year old still finds Beauty and the Beast quite scary, whereas my 3 year old loves it!
