DD1 has just started preschool. We walk every day. She has a pair of clarks shoes but she seems to be unable to avoid puddles Hmm so is going inot nursery with wet shoes (probably socks as well) and the botttom of her trousers are wet.

She has wellies but once I get to nursery there is no where for her to change into them. The parents don't go into the classroom just into the cloakroom which is very small, filled with 20 parents, children and prams, everyone is trying to find a peg, their name and strip their child. There are no seats and dd would get trod on if she sat on the floor to change.

She doesn't want to wear wellies all morning and I don't blame her tbh.

What is the solution?

wait untill everyone else has gone in? or have faith in nursery workers to change her out of them once in the class room. I would just wait untill everyone else has gone in tbh and sit her on floor to get changed.

Is there a chair/bench/wall outside you could sit on to change her wellies/shoes?

Could you go into the classroom to change her footwear?

Could you wait a couple of minutes for the cloakroom to empty a bit?

Keep a spare pair of cheapo shoes and socks at preschool and she can change into them as necessary on puddle jumping days?

ijudge · 11/02/2011 23:14

I like to get her in quickly as my pram takes up much needed room but I think waiting would be the best option.

Do you think nursery would think I'm odd for changing them? Do you think they would mind and thin I'm keeping them waiting as the teacher holds the classroom door open till they are all in?

no you cant expect dc to wear wellies all day, they wont think you are weired, if so they will have to support your dc once in class.

BikeRunSki · 11/02/2011 23:28

I think they would think it more weird for you to let your DD spend the morning in wet shoes or sweaty wellies.

I worry too much I think

at our nursery they all change into indoor shoes before going into the main nursery area and they each have a wee named box thing to put their outdoor shoes. Having s change of shoes keeps the nursery carpet/floor cleaner and you dont traipse mut/wetness all over it. If they want to go to the outside area they change back into outdoor shoes.

I keep a pair of plain black plimsoles in DS' bag, we drop kids of at the gate and they walk in together from there so he goes in hangs up his stuff and teachers change shoes if needed.

Just tell them you have put DD's shoes in bag and could they help her change into them.

Carrotsandcelery · 12/02/2011 16:09

Our nursery also changed them into indoor shoes. I would just put the shoes in her bag and specifically ask them to change her shoes every day. If she doesn't like being in wellies then she will remind them too.

Can she go in in her socks with her shoes in her hands and put them on once she gets into the classroom?

ijudge · 13/02/2011 12:33

Maybe Acanthus, I'm new to this so not sure what her teacher would think of that.

I wish her class had indoor shoes - would make so life so much easier
