Private nursery vs preschool

Apologies I am not sure if I have the terminology right. Basically I am trying to decide between keeping ds at his nursery where he's been since he was 1 or sending him to a preschool attached to the primary school we would like him to attend.

I have two close friends who have recently made the switch (one from the same nursery to the preschool, one in a different area entirely) and are far happier with the style of teaching at the preschool than the nursery. They have both said their children are tired after their time there but not in that crazy post-nursery almost aggressive way.

I would be very interested to hear if anyone else had had a similar experience??

Thanks

Depends on the nursery.
Depends on the pre school
Depends on your child.
That's it really

Thanks for your reply, I do agree with you it's just that these two friends (the only two I know who have done the switch!) have said exactly the same things so I wondered if that was popular opinion...

DS is at a private nursery for the funded sessions.

I like the fact it isn't as "formal" as a pre school/nursery school. I feel there's enough time for that once he starts school.

It really depends on your child I suppose though bear in mind they all have to follow the same curriculum.

do you need daycare ? The actual currciulum should be similar so it is very much downto personal prefernce and circumstance. Don't get too hung up about it being attached to your preferred schcool.

We've recently done the switch the other way around. DC1 went to the pre-school attached to our primary. We had some issues with bullying while he was there and they were very reluctant to sort it out and we weren't very happy with some other aspects too.

Eventually the bullying was sorted out and we kept DS there as we thought he would settle in to school more quickly. All the children settled in very quickly though and within a short time it was impossible to tell who had been to the pre-school and who hadn't.

We decided to send DC2 for one term to see how it went. Things hadn't improved. The children were largely left to their own devices and the tv was on for a long time.

We've moved her to the Pre-school room at the local nursery and she is very happy there. They do far more than they ever did at pre-school.

You also need to consider if you need childcare for the school holidays as most pre-schools are only open during term time.

Forgot to say too that the Pre-school had been given outstanding by ofsted. The only thing they were outstanding in was being lazy and rude!
