Nursery Absence Q

My DS is currently in a state run nursery. We will be away in 2011 for 2 months at least and maybe up to 3 months duration.
Will he lose his place whilst we are away?
Do we need to ask permission to take him out? if so, how long beforehand?

Are you paying for his place or is it "free"?

you don't need to ask permission as he is not required to be there. Obviously it is courteous to inform the nursery you will be away.

If it's a paid for place, they might ask you to pay while you were away to keep the place.

If it's a "free" place, it's likely they won't get funding whilst you are away so would potentially be keen to get a "funded" child in place. If the nursery is very oversubscribed then you might lose your place. I think you need to talk to the nursery manager.

It's a primary school attached to a local school. All free. Run by council. Does that make a difference?

I think you are best asking them, it might depend on timings about signing funding forms and if they have a waiting list, only they will know for sure.

I gave them a quick call and i have to compelte a form and have a chat with the head teacher - guess he wants to know why. Completely understand that. So will do this and hope for the best, worst case he loses and has nothing to come back to. Can always find a private one if need be as I think having too long a break might make starting school a bit harder? or be boring for him.
