My dd was reading the oxford reading tree stage 7 today, she's 4.

My DS can say "I'm not going to be your friend anymore!"

Although he was having a wobbly yesterday and told me that he wasn't going to be my mom any more.

he's learned to be happy to go to preschool, which is a big thing for him.

he has felt like a big fish in a small pond (only 3 other pupils his age, the rest a year younger), and as the younger brother of an intelligent, bossy and overbearing interfering 7 year old with Asdpergers, who is better at everything, it has been good for ds2 to feel Big and Clever and The Oldest.

Today he learnt
how to say " I want you to be dead" to other children by copying another child

and he learnt
that his mother will not accept that kind of talk from him .

DS1 has learned to say "Exterminate! Exterminate!" (he is 3.5 and definitely not allowed to watch Dr Who at home!)

Mine learnt to cut his hair with blunt craft scissors.

Learnt how to send a text message and make phone calls on the mobile phone his best mate 'borrowed' and took to nursery from his much older sibling. They were discovered being oddly quiet in the book corner dialling random numbers.

Mmmmmmmm, not high in the world of academia. But hey he loved it.

She has learnt to

be nice to the other children even if they are not her friends

Use the computer

Write most letters in a legible way

Choose her own activities and work out ways to do things by herself

Put a straw in a milk carton

Cope even if her best friend is not there

My DD has been at preschool (2x5hrs/week) for about 6 weeks, and has just turned 3. she's just exploded in terms of development!

what I'm most proud of is that the staff are always telling me how beautifully behaved she is.

she has 'responsibility' - she's in charge of putting the bikes away!

she can ride a trike (doesn't have one at home)

her speech has come on leaps and bounds, she talks even more and in very intricate sentences. she also sings more.

I was totally shocked the other day when she drew a monkey with arms, hands etc - she never draws at home so I guess she's watching all the older kids!

unfortunately she hasn't learned yet that the potty/toilet isn't scary but oh well can't have everything

MathsMadMummy · 13/07/2010 16:45

they aren't a very structured nursery, and I don't think they do much literacy/numeracy stuff there, but we do lots at home now. one other advantage of preschool is that she's learned to join in more with activities so we do more crafts and games together now

lovely thread idea BTW!

I'm going back a year now, because DD2 is just finishing Reception.

But her major achievement at nursery school was the use of a screwdriver - which she put to good use by unscrewing a light switch and fusing our entire ground floor .

She also learned to take part in a play, including doing the actions and singing the songs, which was a major achievement for my rather quiet, overwhelmed little girl (proud).
