Chocolate Question.

In light of Kiers comments today I was thinking.
I have some chocolate, but if it's comfort long term then I need to increase my stock. Now I love a penguin and a Blue Ribbon/d ?but the dates are short. These individual packets could be shared worse case scenario. But Toblerone is out on its own lol, with a nibble delicately date in my current Tesco score Jan 27.
So my question is can anyone recommend some chocolate with a 27 date please?

Plain chocolate which is dairy free (not all plain chocolate is bizarrely) has a best before date but that’s more for retailers to rotate stock, it will be fine in years to come

Sannabay · 23/03/2026 17:27

Oh thanks haha id never noticed or made that Confection connection.
Can i ask what do you and others think would be a sensible chocolate budget.
Mad question i know!
Say per person?

What were the comments he made? Can’t help in the chocolate front but also not against the idea of hoarding chocolate 🤣

No he's just said don't be deceived or something that the current crisis will be over quickly and he used the term comfort which I googled for a fuller picture and included in that definition was luxuries.
Hence chocolate came to mind. Tbh it's rarely off my mind.

I buy Lindt and cooking chocolate. It’s cheaper because it’s classed as an ingredient and it’s usually the same quality.

Sannabay · 23/03/2026 18:41

I might look into cooking choc Adora.
Lindt is smashing but not cheap.
It's long dated choc I'm interested in. So will look into dark chocolate and cooking. Thank you

Dark chocolate goes further as you need less to get a chocolate hit.

user746016 · 23/03/2026 21:09

I have ten bars of dark chocolate and ten bars of white chocolate in my pantry. Wouldn't feel comfortable with anything less Grin

RealisticResilience · 23/03/2026 21:29

My problem is the speed at which my emergency chocolate disappears. I've given up trying to store any. What I need is a manufacturer to come up with chocolate that only becomes edible in 1-2 years time 😀

If you have the means to make hot drinks and/or food and could settle with just satisfying a chocolate craving with a drink, how about storing some cocoa powder? My current open box has a shelf life until the end of 2027. I use it to make hot cocoa obviously, but also as an experiment I tried it stirred into porridge and it was surprisingly nice when I was starving!

Sorry, what have I missed, are we on the brink of a chocolate rations or something?

I did just scan the news headlines before posting but can’t see what you’re referring to. Unsure whether to panic yet, or not.

Sannabay · 23/03/2026 22:55

No need to panic.
Im always self imposed rationing my choc intake.
I do have hot choc and that choc spread in a jar. So yes that has long dates.
I'm not crazy on dark choc, so I rarely get tempted with that. So I'll just get come dark in. I hadn't thought of white. Yum. Ten bars of each to stash sounds ok. Thanks for yr input everyone :).

Really cheap chocolate tends to have a really long date, e.g. cheap Lidl small eggs for Easter egg hunts... but I don't generally like really cheap chocolate lol!

1reason · 23/03/2026 23:37

@Sannabay what was actually said by KS? Should we stockpile all foods?
Penguin and Blue Riband are no longer allowed to be classed as chocolate...just chocolate flavoured. Sure Club is the same. Cost cutting measures past few years, eh.

IAxolotlQuestions · 24/03/2026 12:05

Remember that chocolate should be stored somewhere cold if you want it to continue to be Phase V chocolate (the best kind) rather than converting itself to Phase IV. It converts itself while solid, if you don’t store it right.

How about Nutella?
