How to store emergency drinking water at home, and where to buy containers?

The world seems so unstable at the moment, we have a bit of extra long lasting food but what about drinking water? I feel this could be needed after seeing the disaster in the south east recently when supply was disturbed. How would you store this? I was wondering about food safe water storage bags, is that a thing? Where’s best to buy these from?

Just buy water in the large 5L+ plastic bottles and keep in a cool dark place. Swap them out every few months.

We have a could have those 10L and 20L camping water containers.

I actually store them empty. I figure it’s more likely we a) get a warning and can fill them at home b) for if water goes off off at home then water will be trucked in locally and we can go and fill ( this has happened once where we live for 3 days due to an issue at local water plant) .

We also have a Grayl water bottle with filter we use travelling in Asia, which we can use worse case to filter stream water nearly and decant into the water larger containers

I always wonder if I fill a container from the tap and put a lid on will it go yuck?

I feel the 5l bottles are the way to go. Storage a problem here, garden probably the only option.

You can buy collapsible plastic containers for camping, but of course you get a heavy dose of micro plastics..I have a disabled ds who has lost water several times in the last couple of years due to burst pipes, SE UK, well publicised in the news, and DD in Tunbridge Wells, Horsham. He doesn't drive, the bowser was several miles away,by the time he walked there,it was empty,as were the local shops..

It doesn't just have to be water. We have:
Soya milk for DD. 5l
Apple juice 5l
Elderflower champagne 5l (homemade)
Sparkling water 24l
Fizzy Pop. 12l
Water purification tablets.
Got some water in jam jars as I store them anyway. Use it to water plants as it gets old.
I have a couple of old pop bottles of water il for plant watering.

I struggle to drink enough in hot weather so bought stuff I will consume.

I order 5 or 10l bottles from Amazon so there’s no lugging about. I keep 10l per person plus 10l spare as hopefully we would get bowsers or standpipes in due course. I have rainwater collection for non-drinking purposes and at the moment that stands at about 3000l. Once the veg starts that will soon diminish.
Some years ago I bought a tall metal cupboard of the type you used to see in offices and keep my stocks in there in a shady shed. The cupboard is also good for dry foods, and I also have a chest freezer in the same shed. I quite like going out there and doing an inventory of my store. Family call it my office.
