How many of you are prepping for a full month?

Ive been reading about a black sky incident.

I have been. Thinking worse case. Food prep and possibly water for a month for two people.

What do we think extreme or sensible.

And how about the quantities needed?

All thoughts gratefully received. :)

I'd say having a months worth of food/water/medicine and any other supplies you would need is sensible, regardless of what the reasoning may be

I think a month is a reasonable time to prepare for, but a month’s worth of water for five people is beyond my storage capacity.

E.T.A. But I have several portable water filters.

Don't forget the possibility of no electricity, so no light , power for kettle , fridge / freezer etc. So think tins , freeze fried , long life meal packs.

Thanks for this Pineapples.

I'm quite new to prepping.

My vicar preached on Jesus' return and said basically how can you prepare if you don't think something is going to happen. It got me thinking about all types of prep.

Have you any suggestions as to quants at all. No pressure have a great day and thanks for the swift response:)

Don't panic. Start with a week. Build up from there.

Lighting: can't recommend solar lights/lanterns hard enough. They recharge and are safe.

Water. Look at water collection and water purification as well as storing drink.

I could do a month of meds and power for cooking, heat and light no problem.

I could do food with the amount of calories needed, and protein, but do need to add more fruit and veg, and some vitamin tablets to make it more healthy.

Water would be a problem, I have 40 litres in bottles in storage, and no room for any more. I do have a Berkefeld water filter with black filters, so could use wild water for drinking in theory. Also have some purification tablets. I suspect I would filter and then put a tablet in to be sure it was safe.

It depends what you mean by 'enough' though. Normal water use with a shower every day, flushing the loo, doing laundry several times a week, all with pure drinking water just wouldn't be sustainable in any longer term emergency.

Priority would be drinking water, then probably having a wash with minimal water, which would be reused to rinse clothes through, then finally used for a daily flush. Apart from drinking, that could all be water from a water butt.

I have a couple of massive power banks that charge via solar or car engine. They will run small domestic appliances. I also have solar charging lamps, wood fired stoves etc. if you’re looking at medium term outages, you need to be thinking about ongoing options because storage soon becomes problematic. Keep space for essential medical supplies and food. Also ensure you are using every inch of garden or growing space for food plants, herbs etc. and learn about herbs for nutrition and medicine.

I'm in the same boat regarding water storage...
Would someone kindly explain water filtration/purification to me? Or point me to where I can find information "for dummies"? I've been worrying a lately about water supply esp. since seeing the floods in central Europe.
(Sorry, not my intention to derrail this thread)

Most people couldn't store enough water for a month. If water quality becomes a longer term issue then purification is the way forward.
