Meals in A Jar

I've been looking on Pinterest, and have seen the emergency meals in a jar. They seem to be dehyrated food, and just need water added and to be cooked.

Has anyone tried any of these meals, as I'm considering trying to make some. But don't want to waste time/money if others haven't had good experiences.

I've got food stored for emergencies, in mylar bags. And have a stock of tins etc. But thought these may be a good idea as a back up for power outages/camping/emergencies.

Cous cous. (Pack mixed seeds, pack sultanas)
Pot noodles
Mugshots
Instant noodles.(Boil water and allow to soak)

Ready made... easier to store,

I suppose if you don't like the ready made stuff or don't want processed food then possibly. But it seems a lot of work otherwise!

I'm not a pepper but if you want to do that wouldn't it be easier to just get some
Dehydrated meals and store them or am I missing something?

What are your likely emergencies?
Will they help with that?

If you are going to use them as quick meals anyway then I can see the benefit. Probably good for after a bereavement. (Stopped cooking for over a year now and tins going out of date. But chucking a jar in a pan or leaving it on the shelf would have been good.)

To be honest it seems like a lot of effort when a tin of stew or ravioli is ready made, you will know it keeps ok, and takes up the same space.

Edited to add - but it might be a fun skill to learn, and you never know what will come in handy. I don't want to put you off.

I think you're right, it's a lot of effort! I think I've decided to go for a pressure canner. And can some veg etc. Have asked a few people if they want to contribute to the pressure canner, so it can get plenty of use and shared costs!

I've looked at these as well. The things that put me off were the cost and lack of suppliers of dehydrated/freeze dried food in the UK.
I have a pressure canner and wouldn't be without it. I got it a number of years ago now when the exchange rate was so much better than now. Jars were expensive, but if you don't mind non branded ones, they are cheaper now.

Thanks @Whatabonkersworld I think I'm going to get a pressure canner. I think it will be a better option.
