I will be the first to admit it is only guess work, as I do not have any access to information not already in the public domain. And yes it is about 20 years since I had any real hands on training with NBC.
But, unless someone can give me better information to work with it is all
I have.
For those who intend to step outside and become a pile of dust, fine that's their choice, and while I respect peoples personal choices, my intention is to do my best to survive and see what comes next.
For example Airfields, yes target in first strike if the planes are still on the ground. wasted if they are already airborne (either they don't comeback or they head to an alternative runway. Lots of runways vs limited weapons). London possibly a psychological target, but is there anything of military value in any Capital city?
As for MAD, unless I drop the big Lotto in the near future, not a lot I can do there.
Limited strikes on likely targets in my area are all south of me. I live in a small village, mid terrace in houses that face east / west. So reasonable amount of protection to my south. ideal room in my house is in the middle ground floor. Given enough time I will pile bags of soil (clay rich) on the upstairs floor, yes the jousts or over engineered in these old houses. I can rig a very basic air filtration system up. Plenty tarps and 100 mile hour tape to create traps.
Have I given this some thought? Yes, more so in the 80s, but in the last couple of years I have been modernising my house so it is more prepper friendly, and while I haven't built a cellar (yet) in my garden I have done what I can to reduce the radiation risk. Blast damage is of course beyond my means.
Of course you could always ask why waste a nuclear weapon on a population centre? Kill everyone in a 10 mile zone around centre of London and millions of people no longer need caring for. Cyber attack on the supply network and you have millions of people who need resources.
Therefore my best guess, and what I have the ability / resources to prep for is a limited strike, or more likely a dirty bomb in a container.
