Can dry rice be used past date?

I know cooked rice needs to be treated with caution and whilst I regularly use food past date - being sensible oc- not sure if it’s ok to do with brown and basmati. If not will be having lots of rice meals soon! Not in itself a problem but the web gives differing info so thought I would ask and see what anyones experience is.

White: yes ages past.
Brown basmati. A little bit past, ieva couple of months or so, depending on conditions of storage. It smells when off. (Clearing out mum's house)

I think this caution around cooked rice is that the outside of it (say in a bowl of extra rice ( cools quickly and the inside stays warm = happy bacteria
So it's not the rice itself that causes the risk iykwim

Brown rice has more oils in it, and will smell and taste off when it goes rancid. I'd eat that first, you could also try sprouting it, if it gets a bit monotonous.

The white rice will last for years past its sell by date if its stored in an air tight container, it might not taste the same as it did when it was fresh.

We regularly use long grain or basmati rice that is 5+ years old as we cycle the preps. Have also used rice from plastic buckets with dried bay leaves that are 10+ years old with no issue. As long as it is dry, not discoloured and smells all right you should be fine. The bay leaves keep the weavils out.

Looked properly and its American long grain not brown or basmati if that makes a difference. It’s an Unopened pack

Go for it. How far out? I'd prob do up to 6 months knowingly, longer unknowingly! It's sealed, it's a stored grain, you're going to boil it and kill off any nasties - nothing to worry about?!
