The year with no summer...

...Due to volcanic eruptions blocking the sun, cooling the earth by about 4degrees. Crops failed for three years in some places. (Eek) Lots of world wide consequences. (Late night YouTube)

A couple of hundred years on, what would it look like now? (More people, better tech, greenhouses, climate refugees?)

How do you think technology would make a difference?

How long would you survive on the food you've got in your house now? (Assuming no-one came to nick it)

Could you grow stuff inside/greenhouse/polytunnel?

What other gear would you want to own?

Technology can allow us to grow crops without the sunshine and is regularly used even now however upscaling it to support global needs would be a challenge I believe

My family could survive quite happily for probably 6-8 months given no interruptions to water supply, we are well stocked in shelf stable and dried foods
We also grow our own vegetables and some fruits

I'd want a proper gro-light set up. The only carbohydrate I could realistically grow are spuds. I could grow a bit indoors with a proper set up. But that assumes electricity, and water and sunlight. Without clean water we're screwed.

To be honest, I could probably last a month maybe 2 on what I have now - Covid depleted a lot of my stuff and build back has been slow.

Much as I enjoy thinking about implausible scenarios, the realistic ones are the ones to act on.

Yeah, some of us might be putting off the real prepping stuff they should be doing....because it's easier sitting on your backside and watching you tube videos! Blush And life has just bowled another googly that I really struggling to pull together resilience for.

failing at prepping

Clocks user name, remembers I've not filled up with petrol Grin I listen to the good advice but fail to carry it out.

I could live on dried beans and pasta for ages if we had water to cook them in. And power. I don't think I have the resilience to survive for long.

I could grow just enough green stuff on a windowsill to ward off complete unhealthiness but not enough to be in good health. But presumably only in the summer if it's like our winters for light levels and warmth.

Look at the trouble we've had with just one country being taken out of the food supply chain.
