Anyone got any suggestions on where to (or whether to) get it?
Dubious of a lot of the Amazon sellers.

I got some a few years ago off Amazon. I took pot luck. To be honest, it's more hope than expectation of it being any use. Look into plain iodine as an alternative. But only when you have carefully researched the dosage and made a note (I need to do this).
I had friends who were studying in Belarus when Chernobyl happened. They were given iodine

Tyrosafe is a safe bet (if you can purchase it here in the UK). I've just stocked up on the equivalent via amazon.

I take it regularly (for my thyroid), my latest lot (from Amazon) is Health Aid Iodine. (healthymood.co.uk). However I take 300 micrograms daily - if you are talking about what you'd need in the event of a nuclear attack, you would need more like 130 milligrams, which is a huge amount! So the amount I take would be useless.

I have iosat for MiniFool, just in case, bought iafter I watched the Chernobyl miniseries. From what I remember reading at the time, it's pretty stable & lasts past its best before date, and was about £15 for a month's supply which should be all we'd need in most circumstances. It's hopefully not something we'll ever need, but I slept much better once it arrived, which in my book makes it a bargain.

I got some Thyrosafe from a U.S. web store called MIRA Safety but that was ages ago. The price was ok (around £15?) but I did pay around the same amount for shipping. That was when all iodine tablets were sold out everywhere and it was hard to find any. I wanted a decent brand product so I paid up and got Thyrosafe. I'm pleased I have it just in case DC needs it. Where I'm from iodine tablets are a household item and everyone has them and it was important for me to have some in the cupboard just in case. I really don't think we'll need them but knowing they're there is nice.

Can I ask a question please and I’m not being rude or disrespectful I promise

I can see the category is ‘preppers’
Can I ask what you think is going to happen and when ?

I did see in the news yesterday that Poland was giving out the Iodide so wondered your thoughts of what is likely to happen or best links/info if possible
many thanks

Well, really because governments are beginning to give them out and because Putin seems (at least from what we hear) pretty unstable. They're available and protect against thyroid cancers caused by Iodine 131.
I followed advice from the previous poster. Those were sold out or unavailable and another recommended (FDA registered) one was Iosat, which I have ordered - same price. There are loads on Amazon, but not from regulated sellers, so whilst you'd never know what's in them unless you happened to have a mass spectrometer in your cupboard, if I'm going to the trouble of buying some, I'd prefer to pay a bit more for something that has half a chance of working. They haven't come yet, but it says they'll have 10 years before they expire. Who know what fun and games the clowns in government could send our way during that time...

The world has gone to hell 😔

@Bigslippers that's why we are preppers. Not sure I speak for everyone but I am under no illusion that I can protect myself from everything that may (I repeat, may) be on the horizon. Some preps may be successful, some may not.
I feel better giving it a go without emptying my bank account. I lived through the Cold War as an adult. I'm not naive about nuclear conflict and my powerlessness in that situation.
For what it's worth, I think we are heading for Cold War 2.0 rather than actual world war.

During the early days of lockdown, I could focus on our mental health rather than stress about food. During last winter's power cuts, we could focus on what to watch on Netflix on our phones rather than how to keep warm, eat food and have light in the house. Because of my preps.

Oh yeah I'm totally a prepper. A little scout at heart. I feel better about things if I feel prepared for things like power cuts, lockdowns food shortages etc. The iodine tablets are just a part of it, and like I said before, in my home country it's a household staple so it was natural for me to have it to hand. I don't think a full blown nuclear war is actually going to happen (I hope not anyway), but I've always thought having the tablets available is good in case there are incidents with nuclear power plants etc. Some radiation from Chernobyl travelled into my home country when I was little, and my parents always had iodine in the cupboard in case they were told to take it.

I think in the grand scheme of things it probably doesn't really matter if you get them or not, but mentally I feel better just knowing I have some around for my DC. (Also I'm not anxious about it even though I'm anxious about a lot of things, but prepping is also kind of a hobby and the tablets are a prepper staple surely. 😁)

I picked one that looked more reputable than some of the others but it was pretty much a guess. We are in central London so I think if it came to nuclear war we’d be gone in a flash rather than lingering and worrying about radiation - if anyone finds a good brand/supply in the UK I’ll probably buy some but realistically I doubt we’d get to use it.

Thank You.
I feel the world is shifting and about 1-2 years before Covid there has been a weird ‘vibe’
I find it hard to explain but I’m in my 50’s and something feels strange
Almost like a fear of dread. Wish I could explain it better but prepping and the dread now make more sense to me

Where I am you can buy them at the pharmacy, but no need taking them if you’re 40 or older. Those who live near a nuclear plant get them handed out by the government (under 40’s). When the accident in Tjernobyl happened we couldn’t pick or eat local berries or mushrooms for years. I wouldn’t trust buying the tablets from Amazon..

Great clear explanation of what you need re potassium iodide, the thyroid and nuclear fallout in this video by Dr Roger Seheult:

It seems taking potassium iodide is most important if you are under 20.

If you eat seaweed you get lots of iodine in your diet. Have to be careful not to get too much!
