Dried beans, tins - where is the best place to get these in bulk at a decent price?

I've been using Amazon and there have been good deal, but that's gone up quite a bit so wondering if anyone knows anywhere that's very good?
}
Thanks.

How much bulk do you want to buy?

MrsThaskala · 29/08/2022 22:45

Costco?

DaftyLass · 29/08/2022 22:51

We use a combination of Walmart, Costco and RC Superstore (in Canada).
Walmart has the cheapest costs for tins of tomatoes, beans and rice and flour . Costco has the best prices for bronze cut pasta, and has great prices for meats.
Otherwise we just stick up as sales happen, so if oil is at a decent price, that's what I stock up this week. Maybe next it will be sugar or pesto, or whatever is useful.
I only ever stock up on what we already use, there is not point storing stuff you don't rotate regularly.

Chinese supermarkets are great for bulk buys of rice, beans, noodles and catering size stuff. There is a really good one called Seewoo in Reading, just off the M4, they also have a store in London No membership needed and they do some lovely exotic fresh foods as well.

For bulk dried stuff Amazon is quite good but I like my 2 extra tins per supermarket run for stacking cans as it spreads the risk of bad batches and you get more variety.

We don't have Costco in Ireland.

I have tended to go to the Asia Supermarket on Drury Street in Dublin for a lot - they do sacks of rice, bags of dried beans, loads of large packets of spices etc. There's another oriental supermarket around Mary Street on the north side that isn't bad as well and does things like the larger sized tins etc.

But a lot of my buying is grabbing a few extra when I have lots of Dunnes vouchers (especially in back to school or coming up to Christmas weeks when there are LOADS of special offers to take advantage of), some in SuperValu, and also keeping an eye for yellow stickers in M&S (I go to the one near my office for fruit for my desk and sometimes lunches - but they can go through a run of lots of yellow stickers for a few weeks so I grab meat, veggies, and sometimes non-perishables (which are nowhere near their dates!) if I see them and bring them home for the freezer/storage shelf).

We have a big "Asian" section in our local supermarkets where I get most of my dried stuff. They are competing with the large Asian foods warehouse type places we have in our area.

We're limited to supermarkets unless we drive quite a long way. For bread flour, tins etc, I tend to use Aldi which is local. Dried beans, seeds, nuts, oats etc, I use Amazon, Aldi, Tesco, Wilton Wholefoods buying from whoever is cheapest - it varies from month to month and I only order from Wilton when I need enough to get free postage. They're good for tubs of spices, so I get peppercorns, paprika, turmeric and cardamon from them when the price is right, but I don't use enough of anything else to justify it. Oh, and fine sea salt from them too. I have lots of things on Amazon Subscribe and Save, but I skip deliveries when they're more expensive than other places.

If you’re not fussy about best-by dates, try Best Before It’s Gone (Northampton based but ships to rest of UK for £6 a box)

best before website

Google for your nearest international store or Asian supermarket. They sell herbs, spices, beans, rice, flour and stuff like powdered milk and household cleaners. The pack sizes are usually from the standard size you get in the supermarket all the way up to bulk - 20kg for washing powder and rice, 5l containers of washing up liquid and softener.
