Just repacking the bag I take with us to the hospital if we need to go to A and E. There was a spilt can of drink incident We did a lot of discussion about this sometime back in early 2020, but with the massive waiting times now I thought I would resurrect the theme and pick your brains to see what I have forgotten.

I shall write a list in the next post of what I have/want to have in there with specific context: but we could come up with different lists for different circumstances as a general resource thread.

So true that thinking in an emergency goes out of the window.

I would add a few FFP2 face masks. NHS staff are being discouraged from testing themselves for covid or staying off work unless properly ill, so a lot are working as normal even if they're full of covid symptoms. Waiting rooms can also be full of coughing people. Either way good to have the option of protecting yourself. (Masks with valves in are easiest to breathe in - good if you're the patient and you know you're not infectious yourself, as they don't protect other people only you.)

Yes, Team Mask here too. We wore good masks absolutely everywhere except in the curtained cubicle and still both caught heavy colds so it had to come from staff not a patient. But when the patient isn't breathing well enough to wear a mask while lying down what can you do.

The amount of problems and cost that cold on a bad chest then caused the NHS means no masking if staff are unwell is, to say the least, counterproductive.

I need to re pack my bag. It's been unpacked and used for a holiday in the summer. As the kids get older we end up in A&E less and less but dd broke her arm just before summer. That bag came in handy!

I don't have a bag, but I do have a list.

I don't have a bag, but I do have a list.

I used to have a list, but believe me, trying to pack from a list at 5am before the ambulance gets there is Not Fun.

I had to do it last year when my daughter went into hospital as an emergency. Having a list was fine for me, and more efficient than having duplicate cables, chargers, batteries that have gone flat, the wrong sized sliders, etc.

A list can work well if you are not incapacitated and are able to pack the stuff. In my situation it works better to have a bag as when I become unwell it happens very suddenly, and I'm certainly not able to be moving around the house to find or pack things.

I keep the sliders in carrier bags tied to the handle. Untie the ones you don't need. Also the bag is packed with carrier bags for each person. Take out ds's bag of boxers, toiletries and deodorant if going in with DD...or both of theirs if going alone.

This is all really useful thanks. I keep a bag in the car pot but I really need to check and upgrade it.
