Hi. I’m new here, so am putting some ideas out there for your feedback. I have been considering the idea of buying a property with accommodation for individuals. Where the land is shared and worked, but the houses are separate. This gives the individuals independence with the strength of working together. The different skill sets, community, etc.. I firmly believe the world as we knew it has gone forever. Costs are spiralling. This is only the beginning. I am not a conspiracy theorist; I look at facts…. for me it’s clear. We will have to look after ourselves. Working in groups gives us community, friendship, safety. I welcome your ideas.

To be absolutely honest, I'd be against doing this. It feels like a cult dynamic would develop very quickly.

Very good point. Thank you.

I like the sound of this. I've been watching The Simple Life on channel 4 and I must admit it is appealing (minus the being stuck in a time period, I'd want inventions and development to continue). I long for that community dynamic.

The last thing I would want is a cult. I want freedom for the individual with the strength of community.

We have to work together for the benefit of everyone.

Community spirit. Example, we have twenty houses in my street. We actively encourage the sharing of tools and skills. It works well and bonds us.

Have a look at some of the eco communities in the UK.

While I like the concept. In reality its very difficult to fully balance things so no one feels they are carrying a different family who dont pull their weight. How do you ensure everyone gets a fair share of the produce and contributes equally. A woman looking after her children, a man working outside of the home and a out of work man would all have different time to give to the community. the out of work man could give more time but would he be happy with the man who mainly only contributes at weekend due to work getting a equal share of what the land produces. the out of work man wouldnt have an income to purchase other good but the working man would have the benefits of an income. I feel that bad feeling could develop quickly

That’s one of the difficult bits of doing it in a group. I do not feel everyone should do the same. However, it is about doing what you can, working with individual strengths. Of course, if you had a member of the team that was lazy, leaving others to do the work, then you would have a problem.

The next 10/20 years are going to see huge social changes, more than any I have seen in my lifetime. I am not doom and gloom, but we need to be ready. This requires us to let go of some of the old ways of doing things.

Energy will become more expensive, so will food and. Some products will not be readily available. [Don’t worry it will eventually turn out ok.] But it will take some time. Being ready is the best solution. This is my line of thinking.

Governments or the World Economic Forum will not resolve this. Please look at the WEF and study their solutions. It goes against freedom of the individual.

I don’t want this to become political, however it needs pointing out.

One of the potential solutions, working together.

Thanks, shtfday for your valuable points.

Otherwise known as a commune? You'll get some people who will love the idea and others vehemently against it.

infj · 06/05/2022 16:34

Personally, I would not want a commune under any circumstance.

You could move somewhere and see if trusted friends make a similar move nearby, maybe sell them a parcel of land from your estate.

infj · 11/05/2022 09:49

Interesting, we have been asked if I would be interested in doing just that. In Ireland. Fantastic country, lovely people.

The downside. Health care is not free, the cost of living is higher than UK. VAT 23%. However, the property is cheaper. YouTube has a channel called. Mossy Bottom. It’s worth watching.

So thank you for putting the idea forward. It came just after the offer of Ireland.

@infj I had a friend who used to live in a cooperative house. An elderly couple owned it and the big Victorian house had been split into flats that they rented out at a discounted price, there were couples, families, single men living there. I know sometime the politics of the place was a bit toxic but equally I believe it was a lovely place to live. They all mucked in with cleaning, maintenance, gardening etc.

But a commune is exactly what you are describing.

FindingMeno · 18/05/2022 05:49

I think its a fantastic idea personally.
Even without the world going to hell in a handcart, I think its a better way to live.
We aren't encouraged to form community and skillshare because the system relies on individuals battling to get to the top of the pile.
