I’m a new gardener. This’ll be my first time trying to grow my own food. Where do you all buy seeds from?
they are so expensive in supermarkets and shops like B and M!

My local garden centre.

Try Wilko shops. They sell their own range of veg and flower seeds at very reasonable prices.

Lidl are good. Also, if you are on a tight budget but want heritage seeds, Real Seeds does heritage seeds (you collect seeds from what you have grown for next year) and they do low wage postage and packaging rates.

I use Premier Seeds Direct. They have been great.

I also grow loads of pea shoots for salads - I just use the cheap dried peas from the supermarket.

Grow your own, then save your own but avoid anything labelled F1 on the seed packet as they won't come true from seed.

Quite a few things can be grown #seedtoseed (eg sow the seed, grow the plant, harvest the plant then harvest the seed) and there are other ways of growing without buying seeds: if you have a really nice tomato for example save a slice and pot up directly in some growing medium and most likely it will sprout and give you new plants although they may not be exactly the same as the one you ate. Learning to save seed and take cuttings is a beautiful thing.

If you invest in open pollinated seeds once you should be able to harvest again and again for years without needing to buy more. I'm on my 4th generation of red Russian kale, for example. If it can grow sufficiently to produce seed in your own garden it is the right plant for the place, so you're likely to get better results year on year if you get viable seeds.

Another vote for realseeds- ESPECIALLY if you’re north of the M25.

most seeds commercially available come from France/Spain and are not designed for shite climates. Real seeds come from the Welsh coast and they only sell stuff which grows in shite climates!

Our co-op were selling their seeds for 10p a pack so we planted sweetcorn, onions, rocket, tomatoes (cherry and normal), Bns, salad leaves, kale and spinach yesterday, and now we wait!!!!
