Phone to be kept for SHTF

I've got a Nokia which will be charged periodically in case SHTF but am looking to see what SIM anyone can recommend.

My closest family / friends have the same Nokia so we want to have SIMs that would hopefully work but without having to top up, so without having the credit expire after 180 days.

Surely a satellite phone is the best option. If SHTF networks will be overloaded/go down.

I never understand the logic that if the world turns upside down the systems put in place will carry on. It would be chaos.

I have two old fashioned dial phones to use on my landline and our in-laws landline if it all goes squirrelly. They live 2 miles away - an option is to run over and give it to them.

Working on the basis that landlines May still work and no point having a phone that requires a power source to access it. Yes, I know that phone network provision also relies on electricity and is also vulnerable but they have more clout in getting access to reduced power supply than I do.

Old fashioned landlines won't work for much longer, the network is transferring over to VOIP, and this is not something you can opt out of.

Totally get that. I don't put all my eggs in one basket but I have this one just in case it's still viable. Also have Walky talkies that we used to use for a laugh on holiday. Or we have nothing. And we are prepared to manage without.

There has been talk in the media including BBC that the phone company are pausing getting rid of the old phone network as the recent storms should them that this leaves people vulnerable with out communication devices. We also have an old fashioned plug in phone for this reason. We live in the middle of nowhere with the old phone lines which was bad in lock down when everyone wanted fast Internet connections but is good for phone connection with no power.

I hope that don't have to get rid of the actual landline as I need it for personal alarm but the cost of moving to a digital alarm is a lot higher than currently.

're the mobile, the nokia is so it can be topped up once, charged, switched off and tucked into the emergency bag to get out if needed. But most Sims the credit expires at about the 6 months mark

I guess an alternative then would just be to use your normal phone in this situation but keep some charged up power banks in your emergency bag. This has the advantage of retaining all the additional features of your normal phone as well.
