What are you growing this year?

For us, it'll be the usual suspects - beans of all types, peas, sweet corn, squash, greens, carrots, onion, garlic, a bit of salad stuff. Going to try some ginger in the greenhouse again as it does well in there.

Hoping for a better fruit season after last year's cold spring spoiled it all. Snow in mid-April did for a lot of stuff.

Those look nice, RainbowZebra, but the stingy gardener in me would reject them in favour of buckets decorated with left over paint.

I know, me too. I'm m in a right quandary about them. I'm so bloody tight with money usually, but I'm also disabled and need to start being kind to myself. I'd never pay the original price, but they are £9.95 in the Easter sale. I'm going to pop to Mums and show her, as she might fancy some too.

and say, here pet, let me get you a set as an Easter present Grin

Ah, didn't notice the 50% off thing. With what else you said, I'd say go ahead and be kind to yourself, have a treat!

Aww, thanks. Eeh well my Mum has given me her card and said to treat myself for Easter. I still think it's indulgent, so I'm squirelling around looking for a free delivery code.

Got some perennial veg started this year too. Oca, perennial kale and spinach ( my fave veg), Skirret and ground nut. If the kale and spinach work, I'll be happy. The rest are a bonus.

RainbowZebra, isn't it funny how we baulk at indulging ourselves. Do it, feel the thrill of buying yourself something you don't truly need, just because you like it.

I bought some more compost this weekend but ran out of time to actually do something with it! I'll probably buy a bit extra next time and just get Wickes to deliver it, I think the extra cost will be covered by me not having to use petrol to get there Confused

As I have two boisterous DC who use the garden to let off steam, I never invest much in plants... Poundland supply most of ours! I'd love to have a beautiful productive garden but don't think it'll happen till they're a bit bigger...

I planted carrot seeds about 3 weeks ago, they were a few months out of their sow buy date and nothing had appeared so yesterday so I planted a whole packet of a different kind which were gifted by a colleague. Guess what I saw when I walked into the greenhouse today? I am so impatient!! Obviously colleague will be given fresh carrots from the first batch in return for the seeds!

@RainbowZebraWarrior did you get the £1 delivery offer email from Coopers today?

You superstar! Just checked my emails and yes, it's there. The only one I could find yesterday was for orders over £30. This is no minimum spend. Hurrah for guilt free shopping.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 05/04/2022 00:27

Glad you found it @RainbowZebraWarrior! I have a day off tomorrow and may end up spending some money there too Blush

AdoraBell · 26/04/2022 21:08

I planted 5 rows of potatoes at the weekend. Beetroot seedlings are ready too plant. Tomato plants are growing too. I have beds ready for other seeds, I will organise those this week.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/04/2022 09:38

My blueberry has flowers. Forgot to tell ex to water herbs and they are looking sad. Will buy some more from Asda and repot.

I have been out and put the kitchen scraps and some prunings from mum's into the compost bin at ex's. It has settled to half full.

I need to wash up then start the windowsill plants. This time last year I had green tomatoes on them.

Bloody rabbits have almost stripped roses we planted last weekend. I told DH I won’t plant vegetables until we have either wire or something to cover/protect them.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/04/2022 15:02

Oh no. Get your own back and eat the buggers

AdoraBell · 28/04/2022 17:25

🤣 when we lived in Chile our neighbour’s maid used to lasso rabbits on her parents farm. It was the only meat they ate because it was abundant.

BlackeyedSusan · 20/06/2022 10:50

My grandad was shot in the arse as his companion mistook him for a rabbit. Grandad was digging out his ferret from under a shed. Gran had to dig the pellets out.

BlackeyedSusan · 20/06/2022 10:50

And in other news... We have raspberries on out new canes.

BlackeyedSusan · 20/06/2022 10:53

Sorry cane.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/06/2022 11:07

we only have one in a pot.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/06/2022 21:04

It's probably quite late but managed to get some old sprouted potatoes in the ground at mum's. They have been abandoned til we next go up there once she has recovered from COVID.

It took longer to dig the soil than expected. Kids' dad was helping, Wandering all over the place, needed telling what to do and how to dig. But we managed to get two rows in. Going to plant some late crops in a couple of weeks if I can. They might not do much but got the seeds now even though we were delayed by illness.
