I've started thinking about prepping for potential winter electricity shortages. I'd prefer not to use candles to light the house due to small toddler. Does anyone have a good camping light and/or head torch that they'd recommend? Preferably rechargeable with a decent battery life or battery operated with aa or aaa batteries.
Thanks in advance

Try LED candles like these IKEA ones, currently sold out, ebay have similar ones. Don't forget the batteries!

If your prepping you need a solar panel, then you can charge a big car battery and run lights from that.

Hi, the best light I have and use for both camping and at home on a daily basis as a side lamp in my bedroom is by MergerGo. I got it from Amazon. It is rechargeable, goes for months on a single charge and can also be used as a power bank to charge a mobile.

Hope that helps

Whats a good solar bank or panel? I bought a small budget one from Lidl for our phones but as far as I can tell, it doesn't recharge from the solar panel at all so I just plug it in.
It does hold a charge well, and can charge all of our gadgets.

I have Anker, power banks and solar panel. With solar obviously the amount of sun makes a huge difference. I plug my mobiles directly into solar panel and can charge it up in half a day if the conditions are right.

Take an empty plastic four pint carton/bottle that had milk in it. Fill with water. Put a head torch on it with the light facing inwards. The light is diffused through the water and you can lift it by the bottle handle to move it around. Less scary for kids than torch beams.
Also, stand it in front of a mirror to maximise light.

I have solar panels but no batteries (yet)

Anyone know the most effective way of storing energy?

Geneticsbunny · 11/10/2021 08:53

Submarine batteries

Can I charge lights or maybe heating during the day?

I wonder if I have enough charge for that??

I am going to reduce my fridge/freezers and I'm going to go round the house to unplug/switch off everything! The TV is already off over night but I need to make everything better

I recently bought a beanie hat with an LED light at the front. From eBay. The light can be removed and charged via its own USB port. Then it all fits neatly back into the hat.

Decathlon camping lights are also decent, some can be charged by winding a handle or with a charging chord. And they also have a solar panel that allows you to recharge these lights or a power bank that could then charge the lights or a phone or ipad etc...

Have a look at any camping or outdoor stores near you at the moment, as they may be trying to sell off summer camping gear to make space for more winter type gear.
