Anyone else want their house space back, free from prep clutter?

Seeing everyone with lovely Xmas decorations everywhere and I can't help but think I want my house space back and free from preps that I've stashed everywhere to store as I have no room for lovely Xmas decorations.
I am glad I have my prep and it makes me feel less anxious but I can't wait to use it and have a normal house and have the space back.
The house never looks tidy due to all the clutter and stuff in random places due to size of my house
Does anyone else feel like this?
What's the most randomness place for preps you have?
I have a dvd cabinet that I have half filled with tins and other half dvds I kept when I had a clear out but just looks totally odd in the front room

Not random, just everywhere.

Can't stand it all cluttering up my house!
I have plastic boxes sitting on the shelf under my work desk, at just the right angle for me to bang my leg on if I stretch!

Being prepared really helps with my stress, but clutter sends it through the roof. So in a small home with loads of stuff, I'm constantly on the edge. However, on a practical level, I'll be able to feed my kid, so the stress of 'stuff' is better than the alternative; if only I could get my arse in gear & get a bit (huge, massive, humongous amount) more organised then I might manage to avoid the ulcer/nervous breakdown arms race.

Do you have to have it all on view? Or so much? Surely in a small home there is a balance between having nothing more than a tin of beans and keeping a few weeks supply.

Get a large box or chest and use as a coffee table. That’s should fit majority. Use under beds, or a box o top of kitchen cupboards

How much stuff are you really storing?

Slightly off-topic, but I'm wondering how easy it'll be to run it down again once things finally stabilise. How long do you anticipate keeping a stockpile of several weeks?
I get the feeling I'm never going to be comfortable to going back to cupboards that get almost-empty by the end of the week.

My stash fits into cupboards okay, but while it's really helping with stress in some ways, knowing we can get through, probably until the end of Jan if we are v careful, the full cupboards are also a reminder that difficult times are coming. And then there's the feeling of huge gratitude that we can prepare a bit, and anxiety too.

I have been lucky and I have two huge built in cupboards in my house. I added shelving and all my stock is in there and my extra freezer is in there as well.

I’m looking forward for this to be over. I want to actually know if I was right to prep it I was wrong 😂

duffeldaisy I feel you should try to have some extra stuff at the back of your cupboards just in case of illness/redundancy/month with lots to pay out. It doesn't do any harm, but gives you a lovely calm feeling in your stomach. I don't think I would ever be able to go back to half empty cupboards again. Smile

@MarshmallowManiac You're right. I've read in a couple of places that in some Scandanavian countries it's supposed to be a responsible thing to do, to have a few weeks' surplus in case of those kind of emergencies if you can afford to do it.

It does make complete sense, and you're right about the calm feeling in being prepared.

@duffledaisy ikr, was just saying the same

Yes!

We have an off shot pantry but also a tiny kitchen where we can't store any food, so all our food is stored in there. The pantry is full and other stuff that would normally go in there (cleaning type stuff) won't fit so everything just feels disorganised.

I normally have a cushion of preps but have extended it. Dh and I were discussing the other night when we would be able to run it back to normal levels! Exacerbated by flour shenanigans, I bought a 16kg bread flour but they delivered a self raising by mistake. It was close to it's date so they didn't take it back, just gave me a bread, but now I need another bag of bread flour, as we've nearly finished it, but the space is taken up by the still unopened self raising! Planning to make the kids bake a lot now they've finished school!

Can you buy some nice looking baskets or boxes to put your preps in? Then at least you’re not looking at tins and might make the place feel like a home again.

Also I’ve seen some creative solutions on Pinterest about storage spaces - shelves up high so you don’t feel like they encroach on your space?
