How important do you think it is in the uk to have a radio that will work during power outages ?

Well I can remember the power outages in the 70s so I've always had one Smile

I have one. I don't know how important it is, but growing up in the 70s I learnt the importance of being prepared for power cuts. I'd rather have one and not need it. Was fairly inexpensive on amazon.

Very.

Sorry I haven't a clue addict.

Ah yes, the 70s - the reason I am never without candles in the house!

I'm a bit of a radio addict so have a couple of portables, one of which you can wind up so that it doesn't even need batteries. It's quite old now so I expect it's no longer made, but had a quick google and there are loads of makes out there now.

Did you mean the portable radios to listen to news or music or did you mean radios like walkie talkie type ones?

There's portable radios that also do shortwave which might be useful. If it's walkie talkie types then I know nothing about those!

I was thinking of SHTF situations where we have no electricity and using the radio to find out whats hapening but if things were that bad would there even be any radio broadcasts?

Yes there might still be, and I think there would definitely still be short wave from somewhere in the world. I've got one of these xhdata ones I think it's 808 version but there are loads to choose from, I've had the duronic one that you can wind up if need be. It was great for a few years until it got dropped from the cupboard onto a hard floor. The torch still works on it though!

Yes, I think it will be useful - the BBC will manage to keep going somehow, and it will be an important source of information.

And also solar/wind up power banks, to keep phone alive

bellinisurge · 11/12/2020 11:44

Remember having one during the power cuts. Also used a shortwave one when I lived abroad in less than ideal circumstances. I have one still
Essential

i have a solar one. It sits on the window ledge at all times so that it is always powered up
