RePrep after sudden relocation please help me rethink!

I prepped and was pleased I had during prelockdown precautionary hermiting and throughout a difficult lockdown.

Unfortunately I’ve had to move suddenly with my primary school aged child to my non prepping relative’s spare room leaving most of my supplies behind. Fortunately they are happy for me to plant a winter salad garden.

I had prepped for a winter lockdown and Brexishambles - not perfectly I’m sure.

Please help me rethink and prep in a different way. I need to be tactful, will have to store in our room I think. No freezer space unfortunately.

Is it time to get my head round a dehydrator? They might quite approve of that plus huge space advantage, although I’m not sure loo rolls dehydrate effectively Halloween Wink.

The reasons for the sudden move have knocked me mentally so I really need help thinking. I name changed when the family SHTF but used to be a regular on these lovely threads

Oh I am sorry to hear that, I would send flowers if I knew how to do it on here

First thing I would sort would be first aid, a thermometer and poorly stuff like calpol etc

Realistically how much space do you have? Are we talking several stacked storage boxes or bottom of the wardrobe only? Do you have a kitchen cupboard allocated where we could help squeeze more stuff in?

I am sure more knowledgeable prepares will be along to help

Ok. Maybe sachets of couscous, cupasoups and cupshots and powdered custard could be slid under/ between stuff. Chocolate bars too.

Couscous bulks up well.

We had a 60l box thread a while back. That may be worth a look.

Spaghetti is more dense per kilo than say fusilli. Also fits in smaller gaps.

Try perpetual spinach in the garden?

Make sure you have enough warm clothes.

Passata boxes pack tighter than tins.

Dried fruit requires 30g per portion. More per space than say a tin of peaches.

Rice is also quite dense.

If you have a small space, have you considered getting some vaccuum-able storage bags? I've only just started trying them and have been astounded by how much they reduce the space that normal clothes/bedding take up. From what I've read, you have to choose the brand quite carefully to make sure they stay squished and that they're reuseable. If you can squash and rotate some jumpers, that might give you more room for food storage.

Spaghetti's a good one for fitting in small corners. Dried beans and pulses will take up less room than tinned ones, but it'll depend how much access you'll have to the kitchen to cook them.

All the best.

@StartingOver2020 I'm so sorry you've had the shock of a sudden move and had to leave your prep stash behind. That must be hard. Flowers

I would also recommend the sachets of microwavable rice (although you can cool them on the hob too) as they are quite easy to make and you can stack them upright in a little box quite neatly. I'd add in stuff life teabags, coffee, some fajita mixes in sachets, some tinned meat or fish and maybe a bag of oats as well as things like shampoo and shower gel.

You can fit quite a lot under a bed, until we got a new freezer I was queen of long life store cupboard prep as that was all I could do, and there is still loads you can buy. Tins of things, dried or cooked rice noodles, pulses (dried or tinned), tinned tomato, pasta, instant mash.
Sending you good wishes for the months ahead. x

All the very best with the move StartingOver2020 Flowers
I thought if you had some suitcases which you used for the move and then unpacked, you could then use them for some of your stash and tuck them nicely under the bed. Smile

New to this but felt for you on having to move and leaving stuff behind. All great advice from others, one thing I would add is shampoo and conditioner bars instead of liquids. Shampoo bars can be used for washing yourself (and clothes) unlike normal soap bars. Could save lots on space and spillage.
