Hi.

I'm looking for fridge items with long dates if you know of any please.

I only have three freezer drawers. My daughter is autistic and has a very restricted diet so I'm trying to maximise stored protein in the freezer. She's quite good at eating meat. Can't store much bread so I'm going to experiment with finding a homemade loaf that she will eat. Already on the sourdough train for the rest of the family.

Thank you

halloumi has quite long dates too.

dried peas, apparently you can sow them and grow them to pea shoots.

plant the bottoms of spring onions in a pot of compost and regrow them. mine are huge. .

Op, you've probably already thought about this, but what about a second freezer?

haloumi has very long dates and actually freezes great so long as its defrosted and at room temp before cooking. Chorizo has long dates for sitting in back of fridge (also freezes great). i buy chunks of speck (cured pork) instead of bacon for carbonara etc (also great for soup) that sit in back of fridge. i also freeze large bags of grated cheese - it really is fine for topping pizza/toasties/cheese sauce etc etc.
always remove boxes for convenience food and just add best before dates with a sharpie on inner bag/foil etc. saves so much space.

Yoghurt maker will help free up fridge space - also reduce ‘power cut/fridge failure worry’. Can make either with dried milk, yoghurt sachets (not always great dates) or spoon full of live yoghurt.

Can you use fresh yeast in a bread maker?
