What does everyone buy to keep in case of power cuts and to keep in the car in case of being stranded? I have cereal bars and water in the car and I was going to get a few tuna light lunches but they're £2.50 each so I was wondering if there was anything decent that's cheaper. Thanks!

Nuts, dried fruit although both are not that cheap either.

Crackers? Some fancier ones can be eaten dry. (Garlic crackers for example)

Rye bread lasts ages.

Powered milk, bottled water, cereal?

Jarred salsa works well mixed with most tinned fish to make more of a meal. And as a dip with crackers.

For the car, water, and high energy snacks. So nuts, seeds, dried fruit, chocolate. I don't think you need meals.

Tinned fruit, custard, rice pudding are okay cold, for both car and home.

If you just have a basic camping stove you can heat up tinned foods.

I assume that power cuts won't last that long, so cereal, sandwiches, snack good etc. I have a solid fuel hexi burner for camping and emergency boiling water as it packs away small and less volatile than gas.

I keep a spade in the car if likely to snow and always have cereal bars and water in my bag. I keep meaning to buy an emergency car window breaker that cuts seatbelts too in case of car going into water. Aside from that, I don't drive anywhere remote and have brakedown cover.
