OH: used to roll his eyes at my stash of Brexit supplies up in the loft. Now reminds me of we used something and need to keep it topped up.

Parents: got interested when I brought it up in conversation and put together a small Brexit stash that served them well through early lockdown.

Grandma: thanked me because if I hadn't said about my Brexit pile she wouldn't have started her own and might have run out of loo roll.

Anyone else got a slightly abashed OH who now picks up the odd tin and helps with stock rotation?

Mines been on board since 2008 when I could see which way the wind was blowing and told him we needed to stock up. He was reluctant but then he lost his job and we lived off that stash for months

LadyofMisrule · 25/09/2020 10:52

Mine has always joked about my prepping habits, and gently mocked my shopping habits.

Last week he asked me about our plans for Brexit prepping, and is putting up some shelves for me in the cellar.

DontBeShelfish · 25/09/2020 19:17

Yes. I was converted to it by the prepper board here back in January 2019. DP thought I was insane. It caused loads of arguments because he thought I was being overly pessimistic and wasting money we didn't have. But I spent a whole year developing a stash and when lockdown happened we were completely secure.

Now he's totally on board, can absolutely see the benefit of it, and it's saved us massively over the last few months.

BrieAndChilli · 25/09/2020 19:27

I secretly, well not secretly but just didn’t state I was prepping for brexit. DH noticed and did take the mick abit.
Then when I could see lockdown coming I stocked up a bit more.
Then when DS1 had a high temp and we then had to self isolate for 2 weeks meaning we had enough food bar asking a friend to pick us up some bread and milk and it overlapped with the start of lockdown and the images of stripped shelves I think DH started to see the point.
Then the other day he said him and his friend had been talking about prepping for brexit after seeing the chaos of March and since.
So I now have his blessing to keep stocking up and he now tells me when he’s taken something from the back of the pantry so I can replace it.

MarshmallowManiac · 25/09/2020 21:13

DH couldn't understand why I was slowly stocking up Brexit Covid Flu bad weather but when he saw the shelves depleted in Lockdown he came round. We now talk openly about prepping for unforeseen circumstances and getting ready for the B word and possible lockdown. He also enjoys the fact that when we are running low, we can just usually open a cupboard and voila! Grin

ShaunaTheSheep · 25/09/2020 21:25

I must've read something on here and suggested to DH the idea of a brexit stash and he totally went for it. Then we added to it as lockdown was brewing abroad, so have a decent amount now.

PeachForTheStars · 25/09/2020 21:31

My brexit cupboard saw us nicely through lockdown. Pasta was plentiful in this house (and not of the panic bought variety - more the gradually accumulated type).

Coughsyrupsucks · 26/09/2020 09:00

My husband who told me that I was over reacting by going full prepper in January (the screaming nurses of Wuhan set me off, that was not normal in the least).

Was somewhat sorry and actually admitted I was 100% right when he didn’t need to leave the house all March and April for any supplies. He’s ordered me a pantry cupboard to say sorry Grin

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 26/09/2020 09:34

Grin A pantry cupboard is much better than flowers. Grovelling also doesn't go amiss!!

Yes! DH used to tolerate my prepping, and would start to give me side eye when the pantry shelves got full.

Now he's fully on board. We just had the kitchen redone and got an additional freezer and he is learning about stock rotation!

bellinisurge · 27/09/2020 19:05

Post Covid - dh is completely converted.

Ladybookreader · 28/09/2020 01:46

I so love the words yes you were right even when given grudgingly

TheBitterBoy · 30/09/2020 20:07

Yup, my DH used to mock my brexit stash in the loft and garage, and complain that the organic veg box delivery and milkman were unnecessary. Then we had to self isolate at the beginning of lockdown and these things saved us from running out of food, and then later we had eggs and flour when you couldn't find them in any shops. He's fully on board now and has just spent the past week re-shelving the garage so we can have better storage.

Begonias · 03/10/2020 15:28

My husband thought I was going mad back in January 2019. I was buying a few extra cans every week. I even tried to get my colleagues on board but they found it amusing. I got laughed at by everyone but come March all of a sudden it was a case of " you must have seen this coming" or "you'll be ok, you're organised". People's attitudes changed. We had to shield and it was 4 weeks before we got a delivery but it wasn't too bad because I had enough food in my stockpile. My husband and kids were proud of my stash.
Now my husband loves the fact that when he walks into the pantry it's like a supermarket. Kids call it the Brexit shop! It's been a slow process but I've not stripped any shelves in the panic buying mode. Recently I stocked up on toiletries as superdrug have had some amazing offers on. So we're ok for toiletries for the next year or so.
Most of my colleagues have started prepping as well as my in laws. My parents always bought in bulk as far as I can remember, hence me buying multipacks/bulk (there's five of us,2 adults,2teenagers and an 8yr old plust the cat).

EstherLittle · 03/10/2020 15:39

I love how all the OH’s are putting up shelves and getting on board with the prepping.

DH is most pleased with my cleaning products stash for some odd reason! We have a cellar and he’s helped me re arrange things in there.

hitchhikingghost · 03/10/2020 16:04

My DH and children used to mock my stash a bit, but yesterday he had a new nice fridge & freezer delivered which he put in the garage.. Smile

AdoraBell · 04/10/2020 23:50

DDs are now onboard. They thought I’d lost the plot and rolled their eyes so much they almost fell backwards when I sent them off to Uni with a decent stash of non perishable foods. One is in Cardiff, the other in Liverpool.

Kokapetl · 06/10/2020 08:18

DH used to joke about my "war rations" but I always felt I didn't have that much in stock. For me it was just that I don't drive so can't just pop anywhere if we run out so when I do get a lift or delivery, I get lots of anything heavy and non-perishable so that I can shop on foot for the rest. Then there was Brexit and Covid (which I could see coming from early Feb) and I increased my stocking up. We had just enough flour and yeast to not run out before the shops got some back in!

HasaDigaEebowai · 06/10/2020 08:25

My Dc have never really known any different since I started having a small store when swine flu was an issue. We always have spares of the things we need and that's just normal for them. I hope it will stand them in good stead when they're running their own households.

DH pretends to mock but in reality he's definitely seen the benefit. We didn't have to go out at all for supplies for 12 weeks during lockdown and our food bills over the past few months have been tiny (circa £25 a week for two adults and two teenage boys). We could suddenly lockdown today for another 2-3 months and still be fine.

TheFridayFeeling · 06/10/2020 22:44

Just posted for the first time on another thread saying similar to this - DH and DS used to laugh at what was my Brexit cupboard but now they’re fully on board after such a bad time for us all
After the last 18m of reading the prepper threads and them being such a help to I’m sure many people, they just seem awfully quiet lately and I just wondered why?

AdoraBell · 07/10/2020 00:11

🤣 at Brexit Shop Begonias

BlackeyedSusan · 07/10/2020 10:27

Bellini keeps saying no-one can have a supermarket in their house...but I am giving it a bloody good go to reach Cornershop level!

indignatio · 08/10/2020 20:13

Am going for the corner shop option.

nicslackey · 11/10/2020 13:35

No luck. I have been begging my mother since 2016 to keep a few essentials in as she lives far from shops and is now 80. I have gone to the supermarket to buy a little stash with her, I have sent her stuff. I have organised home deliveries and I have told her in no uncertain terms that I will not bail her out because she has refused ti to anything to help herself in 4 years. Her response is well, I'll just starve then.

BlackeyedSusan · 13/10/2020 14:56

thankfully muy mum is in a care home so she is provided for there.

still can't get over ex not bothering though. despite beng greatful last time. nagging for him to order a freezer he bloody wants.

sil isn't either. she has made her decision, can't help with that.
