Ok, so I think we’re prepped now for at least a month as long as we keep electricity, that includes everything (I hope anyway Hmm) Food might get a bit boring but we should at least have it.

We haven’t a great deal of space, a bit of a larder which does hold a few tins and an extra chest freezer. I’ve also made a bit of room under the stairs and brought two 75 litre boxes!

What shall I fill them with and what’s going to be the shortest in supply? Admittedly I haven’t done too much research as I’ve been focused on lockdown number 2! The first two items in my list are pasta and tomatoes but what else?!

I have been wrestling with this too.

Have been looking at labels of where somethings come from and had a few surprises. But let's say my preferred shampoo or laundry powder is made in Eu there may be an alternative made here

I think it will be fresh stuff most impacted so have frozen veg and tinned fruit. Will have a few things in veg plot and greenhouse but won't feed us enough. I have local suppliers of veg, milk and meat

Just plodding along and keeping stocking what we like to eat and use

Oh and have some bottles of water

Hopefully other posters with supply chain knowledge will have more of an idea

Following with interest. There was an article.in the grocer about price rises on things such as tinned fruit and veg and pasta recently.

I second tinned fruit and veg.

Treats. I nodded at Bellini's posts and added treats. Theoretical knowledge until lockdown hit then learned how important they were.

Flavouring: spices, herbs, stock cubes etc. Get from world food aisle.

Lentils and beans. Dried last years. Tins also have a long date. Red lentils are fairly easy to cook.
Makes sure you have all the toiletries and sundries you need. (Like fuses, which I failed on)

Juniperandrage · 21/09/2020 09:26

oh fuses! hadn't thought of that. Should get some spare lightbulbs too

Personally, I have stocked up on things that will keep us going if the shops don't have much in them. I haven't given much thought to what comes from the EU. I understand from earlier threads that a lot of foods that are marked as made in Britain contain ingredients from elsewhere, so the labelling can't be relied on.
So my freezer contains batch cooked meals, meat, veg (inc chopped onions) fruit, various leftovers, soup etc.

I have tins of things that can be thrown together to make meals, plus a few fray bentos pies (Dh loves them - I don't!)
Chopped onions, mushrooms (tinned ones are foul as they are but can be made tasty with plenty of garlic, onions and spices if necessary) celery, peppers, courgettes etc fried in oil then added to rice or pasta make a filling meal.

We have long life milk and porridge oats, tea/coffee.

Toothpaste/other toiletries.

Torches and batteries (I also need to get fuses)

It's been recommended to think of what you'd need for 3 days if you were unable to get out, them multiply that so suit budget/storage space/how long you'd like it to last.

I have a good selection of herbs and spices that jazz things up too.
