Dehydrating ....

I have a HUGE apple tree in the garden of the house we've just moved into so after seeing some posts on here (particularly some by the Queen of Dehydrating - sorry, I can't remember your user name but am hoping my title will attract you or someone will tag you!Smile) I brought a dehydrator.

The plan was to make dried apples rings for snacks but I've just found out the apples are Bramley Cooking Apples. I've been told this is very good but am not sure what to do with them now.

I will bake with some and freeze some stewed apples but have very limited freezer space. Is there anything I can do with them in my dehydrator? Can I bake with them once dried etc?

Thank you fellow preppers!

Paging @Bellinisurge

I have been given 2 grocers boxes of bramleys by neighbours. Made apple & onion relish for sausages, cold meat etc and apple & chestnut chutney for cheese and apple butter for on toast or yogurt

Sliced and flash froze some for baking later in the year, the rest are spaced out in a box in a darkish, coldish spot so hope they keep as run out of space, recipes and interest

You rang ?😂😂😂
So lucky to have a Bramley Apple tree. I would dehydrate as many as I could tolerate doing and then, when ready to use, rehydrate them to make apple filling for apple crumble or apple pie . Which I adore.

Apple butter is delicious too.

@lexloofah thank you for paging! ☺️

@bellinisurge so you can just rehydrate and use as normal? Do you just soak the slices in water overnight or something? Sorry - very new to this alchemy of yours!

@lexloofah good idea about storing. There are so many I'd have my dehydrator going 24/7 if I tried to do all in one go!

I would just rehydrate. It would "come back" a bit mushy but ... apple crumble deliciousness.

Thanks @bellinisurge - sounds perfect!

@ohflipit can we use your thread to generally chat about dehydrating as well as your bramleys?

Did you do the apple crisps after? We've just bought a mandolin to cut the apples thinly. Haven't used it yet. My book says cook at 52 degrees but my friend cooks hers much hotter and they come out actually crunchy.

I've done a batch of tomatoes today.
