I know a lot of people, like myself, are stocking up for a possible 2nd wave of covid, however what are people stocking up on for a possible no Brexit deal? Is there anything in particular that you think we may struggle to get or prices may increase dramatically with?

My husband works in imports and tax stuff and says anything made in the EU may get stuck in "traffic jams". When I asked him to be more specific of what to buy the only thing he really thinks might shoot up in price is honey. Apparently we don't produce anywhere near what we use.

Oh he also said prescription drugs could be held up temporarily so to keep a good supply of anything personally prescribed.

If you go back 4 or 5 pages you'll find lots of Brexit related threads with some good suggestions. Some might be out of date but definitely worth a look.

Olive oil
Tinned tomatoes, tomato puree etc
Pasta maybe

Frankly, CV19 has been good to see how good my stash was. Mostly fine, I didn't anticipate the run on flour and yeast so we ran out quickly. Otherwise pasta and tinned tomatoes, and really anything that your family really likes l eat.

Chocolate Sad we don't grow cocoa beans here, would also stock up on frozen fruit and veg as it will be harder to get a lot of fresh fruit and veg as most of it comes from Europe. Olive oil, pasta, rice, tinned toms, loo roll, and I think it would be wise to have a good supply of any medication you need as it will be harder to come by. Oh and IMO things will DEFINITELY go up! Sad

I'm new to prepping but have loo roll, tinned toms, tinned veg like sweetcorn, plain and self raising flour, UHT milk and porridge oats.. I had bought 8 tins of toms in 'preparation' for brexit, covid showed me I way underestimated how quickly supplies can go tits up!

sexesam · 07/08/2020 01:16

@MarshmallowManiac they don't grow Cocoa beans in mainland Europe either as far as I am aware. Although I admit I haven't looked into where the chocolate factories are based.
I think a lot of our fruit seasons will be shorter because they are extended by European imports but we will have to see what happens.
I think we will be caught out by the oddest thing. I just wish I knew what that was going to be! We are all prepping things we know will be hard to get but I am sure something will catch us out!

MarshmallowManiac · 07/08/2020 12:46

I realise that Sexesam I just meant that all imports are going to be delayed, so therefore I will stock up, and anyway treats are always important.

sexesam · 07/08/2020 15:56

Agree treats are always important! Unfortunately I had a good stash of treats. And I was able to replenish them...

MarshmallowManiac · 07/08/2020 20:51

Yes treats are top priority in this house Grin
