Chest freezer organisation

We got a chest freezer a few months ago that comes with 1 slidey metal box that sits in the top bit.

Currently I just have everything mainly in freezer bags, but I am wondering if there is a better way. I had thought I would put luggage tags on each bag and have generally similar stuff in each bag, and then a list on a magnetic white board on the lid of what is in each bag.

Would buying plastic boxes be easier/more efficient for in the freezer, or do they get brittle and break?

Any tips on how you organise yours would be much appreciated!

I buy foil trays like you get in the takeaways. That way you can write on the top what each thing is. Saves you buying tags! And the foil part can be recycled or I guess you could wash it out and reuse if they were of decent quality

Also, they are cheaper if you can buy them in bulk at a cash and carry. You can get them in most supermarkets though and a variety of sizes

@Nrbr16 thank you for that, I meant though what do you store your actual containers in. Sorry, I wasn't very clear.

At the moment I use 'bags for life' type bags and group like things together, but i was wondering if big plastic storage boxes, or some sort of wire boxes would be better? I just wasn't sure if plastic would get brittle and break?

I was thinking they would potentially stack better than bags for life?

We have these -

They fit perfectly stacked in the larger side of our chest freezer. We've been using them around 18 months, they've gone slightly brittle but so far they haven't broken. They have handles on the sides so easy to lift in and out.

We use one for fruit and veg, one for potato products and one for processed meat and fish. Then we use the smaller side for raw meat.

@EveLe they look perfect, thank you
