Sort of new to prepping but have always been one to have extra bits in. Started prepping properly in January which has been a lifesaver but wondered if I could have your advice on cleaning products!
What type of cleaning products do you stock up on? We use a lot of antibacterial wipes as we wipe down our shopping and door handles with them. How many would you suggest I stock up with? I normally get through at least a pack a week?
Also in terms of bleach, surface sprays etc how much do you generally keep to hand?
Are these good things to prep? I have heard a lot about food prepping and we have a relatively good supply and are getting an extra bit each shop but don't know a lot about the non food bits?

Hi, I stock up on products when they are on special offer at the supermarket. Laundry items, household cleaners like bathroom, toilet, kitchen cleaners. Also bleach and bleach spray. I use antibacterial wipes also but remember these are no good against a virus. You need bleach or Detol.

Sorry, didn’t answer the whole question. I generally keep a couple of each spare, at least a Few months worth in the house at any one time. X

Stock up on whatever you use! How much depends to a certain extent on how much you go through a week/month and how much space you have! Eg if you go though 1 bottle a week of X and 1 bottle a year of Y and have room for 6 bottles then don't fill up your space with Y! The great thing with cleaning products is they basically non perishable. I do still stock rotate them. Also you can find space for cleaning products in places you normally wouldn't store food, the damp part of the shed for example. Or down in that space next to/behind the toilet if you really don't have space and don't mind pulling them being in the way for cleaning.
I always try and have around 3 extra bottles of everything, although when I was struggling to find my preferred kitchen cleaner last year I did pick up 6 when I found it! Still got plenty now and at least I am not trying to hunt it down with all the restrictions on.
My view is anything is good to prep if you use it and it will store and you have space to do so. I kept a stash of kids books in the cupboard, picked up when they on sale. Came in handy for DD bd when people said 'can you get something for her from me'. She just gone up a clothing size so now I'm keeping my eye out for next size basics at a good price. You know your budget, your space and what your family situation is, just be logical and think about what you use and what you can store.

I've stocked up on dishwasher tablets, washing powder, bleach, cream cleaner & washing up liquid. I have about 6 of each of these which should last 6 - 8 months. All were bought on offer at different times.

Also have a few packs of sponges, blue clothes & bin bags.

I make my own cleaners i.e sprays and bathroom cleaners and probably have enough for a year, maybe 2 for the spray.

For all others I have around 3 months worth apart from fabric conditioner which I figure I could do without if needs must.

It’s probably actually the area I’m best stocked up in!

@FeralUnicorn can you tell me more about making your own cleaners?

Whenever I see BOGOF I chuck the free one in the stash, also stock up on washing/dishwasher powder, wu liquid, cloths and sponges, jif/Mr Sheen/bleach that kind of thing. Smile

I use vinegar as fabric conditioner. I buy 4x5l sizes so this lasts ages. Also use it for cleaning and in garden as a weed killer.

Also for cleaning i use bicarb and citric acid. I have these in large tubs.

General cleaning spray i buy neat and dilute into a spray bottle so again lasts ages

@sexesam I started of by using a vinegar cleaner which there are loads of ‘recipes’ for online, I really didn’t like the strong smell though although many say they aren’t bothered. I swapped to citric acid instead which does the same but doesn’t smell, I just add 2 tbsps to 500ml of water and then a few drops of essential oil to give it a bit of a lemon smell, that is totally optional though :)
I use this for most things, an all round multi purpose cleaner as such.

For the bath, oven etc, all the tougher jobs I use bicarb and washing up liquid, it’s 2 parts bicarb to one part liquid. I find it as good if not better than the likes of cilet spray, just wipe on leave for a bit and wipe off.

Disinfectant I just use zoflora or the like watered down to instructions, it doesn’t cut out plastic completely but it definitely reduces it by a lot when compared to buying sprays all the time. Hope this helps a little :)
