Camping/Travel toilet to use in the car?

So in the current situation we might have to be travelling for several hours and cannot go into a service station for the toilet. Any camping Type toilets you can use in the back if a car or in a big boot? With difficulty? Or any suggestions? I’ve seen the happy in a bin bag in a bucket suggestion. Needs must!

I have one but I've never used it. I have MS and associated bladder problems so it's something I keep in the car anyway.

HotWatBot · 26/05/2020 21:53

I think that service stations are open though, no?

DartmoorChef · 26/05/2020 21:56

Toilets are open in service stations

We didn't need to use it, but I put our camping toilet in the car today when I took the DC to the woods to ride their bikes. I think the DC would have enough head room to sit on it in the boot. I think I would have to put it in the foot well (and probably dangle my feet out of the open door). It's always been good on our camping trips. It's this one from go outdoors.

Porta potty can take 11 stone but not 12.

CherryStoneTree · 26/05/2020 22:46

@DDIJ please feel free to message me more details, I would appreciate it!

@DartmoorChef thanks very much, but as I’m shielded I can’t take the risk to go inside a service station.

Should you really be making such a long journey then? What if you have a breakdown or an accident?

CherryStoneTree · 26/05/2020 23:04

It’s for medical treatment, I have to travel for it. Yes having a breakdown or an accident is a huge fear at the moment.

Service stations? The bushes?

DartmoorChef · 26/05/2020 23:09

I would use the services then. Wear gloves, carry some sanitiser, and maybe change clothes in the car afterwards.

Travel John's

FusionChefGeoff · 26/05/2020 23:18

Another vote for Travel Johns they are brilliant for adults and DC and male and female. If it's for you and for a specific journey, make like a Victorian and wear a big long skirt so you can use it discreetly!!

YinuCeatleAyru · 26/05/2020 23:26

travel Johns are great but are single-use. these expanding bottles do the same job but are reusable. easy to use in-car. only for a wee though. no use if you need a poo.

Something like this:

With a bin bag and cat litter in. I have one for camping for middle of the night emergencies. Cheap and basic.

Mummyshark2018 · 30/05/2020 18:00

I've used a she wee and it's fab. Also try a travel John which you can use a few times and it's literally a bag with crystals that gardens when you pee in it

NannyR · 30/05/2020 18:12

I have a shewee for hiking, it's great BUT you need to practice getting the hang of using it a lot first, preferably in the shower so splashes don't matter.

Elieza · 30/05/2020 18:16

Is there something wrong with an ordinary bucket? Rinse with some water and tip out. Line with a bag if it’s a number two. Cover with a big bag en route when not using.

I’ve put one on the rear seat floor where you would put your feet to climb into the back seat of my two door hatchback with the seat pushed forward and there was plenty room.

Take loo roll and a bag for used loo paper.

Oxyiz · 30/05/2020 18:20

Sorry if this is TMI, but I physically couldn't make myself use a shewee! I think I've trained my body so it will only release when I'm sitting down.
