I regret buying tinned stuff. I don't have loads but probably have about 20 tins of beans, soup, veg and fruit. We will get through it but the family are all cats bum face about it. Tinned toms and Devon custard - yes, other tins just no. I won't do this again. Next time my focus will be on having external delivery supply chains of fresh fruit and veg if I can't get to the supermarket.

If there is a next time, I will cook and freeze.

I have excess rice pudding but it is not going to waste as ex can't survive without pudding. He has been eating the excess. As we are working as a team to keep vulnerable DD safe in it is working ok.

We are ordering together and sharing in food out.

thenightsky · 28/05/2020 15:35

Long life milk. But its ok as I will eventually use it all up making sauces I guess.

SpecialKakapo · 28/05/2020 15:38

Frozen broccoli is grim.

Frozen spinach is great in curries or stews but has to be whole leaf not pureed.

Scotch pancakes are good for toasting from frozen.

I will never have the patience to cook with dried beans (other than red lentils).

corlan · 28/05/2020 15:39

Baked beans. Thought they would keep us going come the apocalypse but, as the apocalypse hasn't come yet, noone really wants to eat them.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/05/2020 15:44

I have been looking for offers on baked beans but sorting through the stash has revealed a lot more than I remember. (Several multipacks more) not go to waste though as ds eats them quite often.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/05/2020 15:46

Frozen broccoli has to be used in a sauce of some description. Alone it is foul.

GarlicSoup · 28/05/2020 15:52

Tinned sprouts 🤢

SpecialKakapo · 28/05/2020 15:53

@BlackeyedSusan do you mean make it into a sauce, or cook it in a sauce?

We have yet another bag (subbed instead of spinach in latest delivery Sad)

If anyone has long life milk you really won’t use, maybe donate it to your local food bank if still in date? Ours is absolutely desperate for it.

choli · 28/05/2020 17:51

Canned tuna is nice on pasta with a bit of olive oil, garlic, lemon juice and capers. You can add some chopped fresh tomatoes if you want.

thenightsky · 28/05/2020 21:52

Frozen broccoli is best made into broccoli and stilton soup. I find it works better than fresh.

IloveParmaViolets · 28/05/2020 22:27

I use frozen spinach with tinned chickpeas in a curry or in a spinach & potato curry.

Notverygrownup · 28/05/2020 22:43

Yes to the foodbank for your longlife milk.

Or if it is not donate-able (just about to run out of date perhaps) use it to make your pancakes. It really doesn't affect the taste of pancakes.

magicmallow · 28/05/2020 22:45

For longlife milk, I have been giving it to my DC in their porridge rather than use normal milk. they don't notice the difference!

magicmallow · 28/05/2020 22:46

I have sooo many baked beans though that I need to find a way to use up!!

VanGoghsDog · 29/05/2020 00:38

If the long life milk wasn't over 6m out of date I would use it, but it is way out of date. I think most adults with half a brain know they can donate food to the food bank and don't really need that to be suggested to them.

AnnieCartwright · 31/05/2020 09:14

I regret not having hair clippers to cut my husband and sons hair.

MrsLindor · 31/05/2020 19:51

I bought too much frozen veg and froze too many bread cobs, other than that I was reasonably prepared, there wasn't anything we couldn't get I was desperate for. UHT milk was something of a revelation, we didn't mind it at all so we'll restock and try to keep some in.

You'd think that wouldn't you but a few years ago somebody on a AIBU I think was throwing away unopened boxes of Christmas treats. Everyone was aghast at good food being chucked away, the op hadn't even considered donating to a foodbank. She slung the lot out in the main bin with the rest of her rubbish. She was on a health kick & didn't see how wrong it was. Loads of people would have loved a box of xhpcs/biscuits with their foodbank parcel.

Box of chocs

Omg somebody mentioned Brexit. I forgot we had to be worried about Brexit. Ffs.

cheesecurdsandgravy · 31/05/2020 23:38

i have our bread maker away in November as we hadn’t used it for over a year 🤪

But, I’ve been enjoying making bread by hand. For those short on time and/or elbow grease, try no kneed bread. Honestly, it really works. Of course, you do need to prep a large cast iron pot... but at least that can be used for lots of other things too! Also, best take out shares in greaseproof paper to offset the pot!

I regretted the spam for quite a while but finally spam fritters it on VE Day (if you wont eat spam on VE day in the middle of a lockdown when will you eat it) and they scarfed it down and asked for more. Hmm

BlackeyedSusan · 03/06/2020 00:00

I love spam.

canigooutyet · 03/06/2020 00:08

Only thing I regret was having to buy too many takeaways. Still hadn’t caught up from last year when I was laid up for several months.

The extra bit of whatever I chuck in with my usual deliveries to put away, are the stuff we all enjoy. Bad enough having to stay in, even worse when forced to eat stuff you don’t like or makes you ill. Those people I think are panic buyers.
