prep to survive 12 weeks plus with kids in isolation??

We thought we were very well prepared back in January but hadn't anticipated needing to totally isolate for minimum of 12 weeks for being very high risk.

Assuming online shopping will stop for all non essentials and that we wont be able to go our for exercise what would you suggest ordering now for family with primary and secondary school age kids?

We have ordered a tent, hair clippers, treadmill, turbo bike, weights and training bar. Also ordered a kindle and ipad as didn't have either and usually very reliant on library as avid readers. Have got sun tan lotion. Clothes/footwear should be fine as we have hand me downs of the next size up and plenty of crocs. Luckily we tend to keep things in case it comes in handy so are fairly well stocked certainly with crafts/board games/stationery etc.

Thanks

Headphones
Yoga ball, skipping rope, football
Real books (there’ll be a lot of time on screens and it’s nice to take a break)
Crossword/sudoku books (same thing: screen break)
Craft supplies
Ink for printer
More paper than you think.

Cookery books, lots of coloured paper for Chinese paper crafts(name vanished from head) candles, jam jars for lanterns, note books and pens to keep journal, write story's heavy card to make board games. Don't forget yourself nice bath/shower things, silky/soft bedclothes, gin, chocolate

Gin

Food

The rest is not essential and unfair on delivery drivers and postmen

gingerbeerandlemonade · 27/03/2020 06:27

I did a huge online order with Baker Ross back in Jan and have loads of paint, paper, craft kits etc. Have a look and see if they are still delivering. Some great stuff! We do a lot or activity each morning.

Also sunscreen is a really good idea! I'm panicking now that I have none.

Food and medicines for yourselves and any pets. Paper crafts and nice bed linen are not essential. I’m shocked that anyone has even suggested things like that.

nomdefuckit - I understand the view that only food is essential but there may easily be other vital things I have overlooked so worth asking. I certainly wont be ordering bedding or nice toiletries or alcohol or anything for myself.

I have a teen with severe mental health issues who is unlikely to be able to access his regular hospital therapy as things get worse (although it may be available by phone initially) so want to try to make sure he survives this and doesn't kill himself. Apologies for asking but it could be as simple as adding to our TV or internet services which might be feasible by email without delivery for example or perhaps something we could make ie pull up bar for gym or we could sew or something we could add to our food order, it doesn't need to be an additional online order.

All the things I have ordered was well before anyone else went into lockdown as we went early whilst everyone else was still out shopping in the high street. Most of my preparations were in January whilst everyone around me was making fun of me.

Sun tan lotion seems essential to me (but we have it) as many relative have died of skin cancer and my medications make me high risk not that I would go in the garden without it. All prescription medications are a concern as my life and one of my kids is dependent on supplies but I have as much as we are eligible for and also have our non prescription medications and hopefully can add more in future to food orders.

Any supportive suggestions welcome as we are expecting to be locked down with kids remaining out of school for far longer than 12 weeks due to our risk factor.

Thank you.

@nomdefuckit the delivery drivers that have started working for companies to put food on their families tables when they lost their jobs? Delivering things that mean people are more likely to stay at home as they can tolerate life circumstances rather than going out and within 2m of other people?

Ineedabreak19 · 15/04/2020 07:58

educational resources

Oxyiz · 15/04/2020 18:50

You can absolutely order things - any things you want - from online. Delivery drivers are dependent on that for income. If you're not meant to be able to order something you won't be able to.

Have you thought about a Nintendo switch? I don't know what your son is into but I'm partly staying sane by playing games on there - they tend to be nicer/gentler than other gaming systems. (Or maybe thats just my game choice!)

Thanks for mentioning Sunscreen, it is something I haven't thought of and I burn easily.

I would get some books, puzzle books etc. (There has been a few power cuts in the area recently). I would also get spare charger cables for any high use items.
