Gluten free prepping

Hello preppers I would like to become one of you.

Covid has made me realise how utterly unprepared I am for an emergency or even something as mundane as a 2 hour power cut, let alone anything worse.

I’ve done a couple of supermarket delivery orders and am in a much better situation now than I was a week ago with basic stuff like torches, candles, battery pack, some bottled water, loads of baby meds and tray meals for my 15 month old daughter, and I’ve started to stock up on stuff for me and DH but I have coeliac disease so it’s been a bit expensive so far.

Does anyone have any suggestions for good gluten free food I can get.

I already have
Baked beans
Tuna
Loads of tins tomatoes
Tinned fruit
Tinned veg
Tinned kidney, pinto etc beans
A small amount of GF pasta
A small amount of GF oats
Rice

I’m definitely lacking meat, and I love meat! So in particular does anyone have any suggestions for tinned meats or soups with meats in them that are GF and cheap as poss as I’ve already spent loads on making sure my daughter will be fine and now I am poor but still in need of being prepared.

Thanks

Please don’t be put off saying anything because it seems obvious, I didn’t even have a torch in the house until FFS that shows my level of newness to this and need for help!

Not tinned but things like pepperami and mattesons sausage are gluten free and keep well in a cupboard for a while.

Anchovies obviously if you are just wanting stand by Unami flavour.

Tinned tuna

Tins of hot dog sausages are also usually gluten free.

Lots of the 'look what we found' pouches are gluten free and available in Waitrose/ Booths/ Amazon. Very popular with campers needing gluten free non perishable food.

@pastabest

Thank you so much I didn’t know lookwhatwefound existed until you mentioned them I will investigate now. And I usually try to eat healthy as poss but I love hot dogs for their unapologetic processed unhealthiness I will get some of those too.

Corned beef, Stagg tinned chilli, tinned curry are all GF. Heinz beans with sausages are GF and a very good emergency food as they are edible even with minimal/ no heating.
Tinned new pots could be used in all sorts of ways

Morrisons had a special offer on GF oats recently which made them a great price

Is chick pea flour gluten free? I use it to make falafel.

Tinned potatoes?

Bit crap at gluten free.

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 02/03/2020 20:28

Spam is also gluten free!

notapizzaeater · 02/03/2020 20:33

Lidl do a lovely dried savoury rice (not the chicken flavour). Which Is a good standby.

Following! Sorry but I'm mid work here but will be back to get some ideas and I'll tell you what I have (which isn't much! ☹️)

We are Gluten free too (DD has multiple allergies ) I've stocked up on Doves GF bread flour these last few months I've found it difficult to find the Doves white bread.
We also have GF fishfingers for DD.
Lots of rice noodles we prefer the Amoy version for quick noodle and also Brown King Soba noodles.
Loads of GF pasta.

Tinnednut · 02/03/2020 20:51

Look for pasta sauces with Bacon in them too generally cheap and at least a little protein.

It's really hard to prep when you have allergies so expensive too!

I will use the flour to make pizza bases and biscuits too.

Do you have a freezer @MrsWolf2 I've been batch cooking soups which are mostly veggie but have some meat in them, which stretches the meat much further.
Likewise cheap minced based meals - again stretching the meat out with vegetables, beans, green lentils etc.
Apologies if you only wanted tin suggestions!

MrsWolf2 · 03/03/2020 20:11

Thank you for all your suggestions Grin

Freezer is small and full with day to day foods but thank you anyway.

Since I got diagnosed with coeliac disease one of the foods I weirdly miss the most is Heinz baked beans with sausages, I don’t remember if I just assumed they weren’t gluten free, or they weren’t when I was diagnosed - but either way, learning now that they are gluten free has made my day. I’m going to buy a ridiculous amount and not even for prepping, just for me for lunch every day for at least a week!!

Thanks again.

Tesco tinned curries and sweet and sour chicken are gluten free and actually pretty good. I have to avoid some of the beef ones as I am also lactose intolerant. I haven't done too well with finding meat based soup, but Amy's soups are filling. Do you have plenty of crackers in stock in case bread is unavailable? I make bread or cheese scones if I need something rather solid... If unhealthy is good, then how about tins of corned beef for hash with potatoes, onions & tomatoes?

Heinz are gluten free but most of the supermarket own brand versions aren't (bitter experience).

All they need to do now is come up with a gluten free Heinz spaghetti hoops Grin
