Prepping on a budget?

Sorry to drop in as a first time poster in Preppers and ask your advice, but I'm struggling to get my head around how I can prep on an extremely limited budget. We live penny to penny with an already smallish grocery budget (and not a great deal of storage space!). Any recommendations for prepping on a budget? I have the remainders of a small Brexit stockpile (prepped by Reading the very helpful threads here) which we put on our already groaning credit card so loads of dried pasta, rice etc that I bought in bulk but am growing more and more concerned about coronavirus and have no room left on the credit card. Thank you in advance!

Just had a thought. Do you pay council tax? If so do you pay it over 12 months or 10? If it’s 10, then there shouldn’t be any to pay this month you might be able to put a little of that money towards topping up a bit.

Just a thought but if you are on the old style benefits there are one or two months of the year when you will get an extra income support payment because of 5 week months, worth noting on the calendar and workIng out when it falls

My local big Tesco sells bacon bits. They're the scrag ends when they slice the bacon that won't cut into neat slices.
You sometimes get big chunks, you sometimes get tiny little bits. Costs about 80p for 500g. MUCH cheaper than bacon in slices.
Really good for chopping up into pasta sauce or making into chunky soup with red lentils.

This website has very cheap revokes as it's a charity food challenge to live off less than £1 a day

Thank you everyone, this is so useful. I did the usual weekly shop today and was able to add quite a few of these suggestions without going over budget. We're going to have 2 extra cheap meals a week for the foreseeable until our store cupboard is stocked up to free up the money.

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay unfortunately we're in NI which works differently. Good suggestion for others though!

@Paperdollss not in receipt of any benefits but again that's really good advice for others reading who might be. Tbh we're only living on the breadline because we have historic unavoidable debt and a toddler in childcare - things will ease up over the next few years and I will definitely be looking at some of the more expensive prepping (grab bags etc) then.
