UHT milk in pancakes

I bought some UHT milk as part of my brexit stash. Personally I think it tastes gross, but I figured it would be better than nothing in coffee.

Making pancakes earlier this week, it struck me that they're an easy filler for the kids. Has anyone made pancakes using UHT milk and do they taste normal? Obvs I could test some out, but I'm loathe to open a carton & use up eggs if they're going to trader horrible.

IHT is normal milk heated to a higher temp so it lasts longer

It’s just milk

Try it.

it is fine, I use UHT milk to make pancakes when camping.
Personally I think it's also fine in tea and hot choc.

Thank you!

Yes, that's my plan for using it up once it becomes clear we didn't need it. No one would know the difference in pancakes, rice pudding, cheese sauce etc

Cheese sauce- excellent. my kids love macaroni cheese.

I use UHT milk for everything. I can't tell the difference unless it's been poured on cereal, and even then it's fine for me. I'm not that fussy with milk, though.

Agree with the others UHT is great! Initially I had to shop around for one that tasted good in my tea but always have it in now.

We live in Azerbaijan and all our milk is UHT. We make pancakes all the time, no problem - and put milk on cornflakes and in tea every day.

I have about 20 litres in my prep bank at the moment, great because it doesn't need to go in the fridge and lasts a good 6 months.

I'd have thought it would be fine in custard too (the birds powder type).

Funkycats · 07/03/2020 14:42

It's fine in porridge too. Can't taste the difference.

BecauseReasons · 07/03/2020 14:46

We only ever drink UHT milk. It can be used successfully for everything you'd use non-UHT milk for.

MotherWol · 07/03/2020 17:14

If your kids like pancakes, Yorkshire puddings might be another good use for it, if you have eggs. Personally I’m saving the UHT for coffee and cereal, and using dried milk for baking/yogurt making and anything where you can’t tell it’s not fresh milk.

Don't know about uht but we use long life soya milk in pancakes (I'm vegan and DH js lactosr intolerant) and they're absolutely delicious. Even my notoriously fussy mum says they're nice.

BiddyPop · 09/03/2020 12:07

Also in rice pudding. Or mashed potatoes.

BlackeyedSusan · 09/03/2020 13:58

Soya milk and egg replacer in pancakes, not as good as real milk, and egg replacer, but passable.

Reginabambina · 09/03/2020 14:00

You can use any liquid and it will be fine (well maybe not vinegar). I doubt you’d be able to taste the difference with UHT milk.

jackparlabane · 09/03/2020 14:04

UHT is fine in cooking. OK in coffee but I hate it in tea.
