Need more beans/pulses/vegetables tinned and some more goodies! Vegan family of 5 (3 young school aged children) and frozen vegetables/convenient food!

Fridge is filling up with vegan butter, tofu and vegan cheese. Trying to buy fresh fruit and veg daily to keep stocked up.

Anyone think im missing or need more of something?

Plantherd · 26/02/2020 19:40

Forgot to add have about 20 UHT soya milk I'm using but replacing! This list is stuff that is hidden away.

SharpieInThe · 26/02/2020 19:50

I keep eating the stash halloumi, don't think I've ever had more than 4 blocks in the house at once.

Pretty impressive list @Plantherd, I'd add some thrush stuff and cystitis stuff to your medicine stash - volume depends on how many females in the household.

BlackeyedSusan · 26/02/2020 20:00

From experience, I get though more cans of chopped tomatoes or passata than tinned beans. You can't have too many red lentils.
I use more tinned veg than tinned beans. ( Vegan/ veggie meals) ( well frozen and fresh in normal times.)

Have you got plenty of herbs and spices? Vinegars, oils, salt and pepper?

BlackeyedSusan · 26/02/2020 20:02

Cystitis and piles and toothache are all things you don't want to be suffering without meds.

Plantherd · 26/02/2020 20:15

What could i use for toothache? Yes thinking need more tinned vegetables. DH and I normally eat about 8-10 fruit/veg a day.. I have a small fridge and freezer and a limited budget. DH has a neuro disability/autoimmune disorder, picking up another 3 months mediciation for him tomorrow (so will have 6 months in total- starts to use it tomorrow, he can't really afford to miss a day of it..)

Im the only driver in the house due to his disability so been popping to the shops about 10pm for the past 3 weeks.. Planning hopefully one more trip tonight for long life/meds with a £60 budget.

Lots of pepper, spices, herbs.
Have bought seeds and soil to start growing in our tiny garden.
I'm exhausted now tbh! Must take care of myself!!

Plantherd · 26/02/2020 20:19

Also getting in more Nutritional Yeast and seeds at health shop tomorrow. Maybe some more TVP too.

SharpieInThe · 26/02/2020 20:40

Clove oil for toothache. Diluted down on to cotton.

Funkycats · 26/02/2020 20:52

I've got medications like eye drops, thrush treatment, tummy upset stuff, gaviscon, flu remedy, anti histamines, insect bite treatment, calamine lotion etc. Normally one of us would nip out if the other needed it as all are things usually easily available. Hope not to need any of it but it'll all keep.
I also have 6 months supply of flea treatment and wormer for the cat.

Plantherd · 26/02/2020 21:37

Thank you! Added clove oil and other meds to my list. Delaying until tomorrow as need an early night Smile

How long are people expecting to be in isolation for? I was thinking just a couple of weeks so, considering I would have a normal shop for a week and have always got a few extra bits in the freezer / cupboard, I'd just get extra tinned stuff for a week or so?

Started today

2 tins chicken curry
6 mugshots
2 tuna salad
Mini nan breads (last until end May)

In order for delivery tomorrow

Spaghetti
Pesto
Tin veggie curry
Tin veggie chilli
2 tins chilli con carne
Large pack rice
3 fray bentos pies (1 cheese & onion, 2 chicken)
2 tins potatoes
2 cans sweet corn
Can hot dogs
Can beans
Can beans with veggie sausages
Oatcakes
Carton orange juice
Tea bags
2 cartons milk
Weetabix
2 tins soup
Bottle of wine

Pack paracetamol
Packet lemsips
Pack rehydration sachets
Toilet roll
Tissues
2 bottles handgel
Anti bac wipes

I think I'd like to get some masks too, maybe some cheap disposable ones just In case.

Our household is me, DH and DS18. I asked his GF today if we had to be isolated at home due to corona virus precautions whether she would be here or at her mum's. She looked at me as if I was mad and DS laughed.

Have you got a massive house @Plantherd ? I've just cleared out an upstairs cupboard to hide stuff in.

Plantherd · 27/02/2020 23:05

@Jinora
His Dr and practice have allowed it for about 10 years (if he misses his morning meds- alarms have to be set/I try and remind him, he quickly goes down hill/cant function to his 'normal' level)
Might be worth asking yours?

Plantherd · 27/02/2020 23:12

Nope I live a pretty minimalist life (apart from food being well stocked due to DH disability and being everywhere as the only driver- kids activities, hospital appointments etc) we also live in a small house. Two bed and a lounge/diner. I don't own much stuff so have lots of space, nothing was under our bed or in about half my wardrobe and DH- that has managed to store a lot! The oats and pasta have filled up a whole cupboard in the kitchen (which was empty anyway!)

Plantherd · 27/02/2020 23:19

We do love oats as a family, might be worth getting. I regularly make oat milk, granola, flapjacks, overnight oats, oat flour and porridge. Easy recipes and cheap!

middleager · 27/02/2020 23:20

Feeling inadequate now!

Lots of tins, bread mixes, pasta, pulses, water, longlife milk etc. but I always stress about cat food (forever running out, greedy kitties), toilet roll and paracetomol, so make sure I have these well stocked.

My Tesco delivery (compiled Monday) arrived today. Interesting to see that both hand sanitisers (diff sizes and brands) were not delivered.

Then I went on Amazon and the prices were ridiculous.

middleager · 27/02/2020 23:23

I also have 6 months supply of flea treatment and wormer for the cat.

Genius. Thank you.

Plantherd · 27/02/2020 23:33

I just looked at amazon prices too.
Shocking.

Yes definitely the pet food needs to be in and as others have posted medicines just in case.

Tins, pasta and pulses can make quite a few nutritious meals. I found it really helpful to write out exactly what I had so I could see where I needed to add more/roughly plan 3 meals a day for a couple of weeks.

Oysterbabe · 28/02/2020 10:48

These threads make me long for a lovely big pantry. I'll be stashing my tins wherever there's space.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/02/2020 12:18

Under the dining table is getting pretty full. I had a pantry but we removed it.

I did a big shop yesterday. Ex took away three bags full without complaint. Now that is serious. He refused all Brexit planning.

Added more tinned veg, usual carrots, peas and sweetcorn chopped tomatoes. Added 2 tins of onions and a tin of mushrooms.

Tinned chickpeas and blackbeans. ( On offer)

Chicken Curry.

More cupshots and cous cous sachets

Bag of cous cous.

Another set of dried fruit.

I am generally pissed off with life as it is worrying the increase is starting to follow the upward curve of exponential growth.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/02/2020 12:23

Check out the non food preps thread on the Brexit board for ideas such as flea treatments for pets.

This board has a: will someone think of the children thread with ideas for education.

Oysterbabe · 28/02/2020 13:12

My husband is the same. Sneered at my brexit prep but he suggested a corona top up.

SharpieInThe · 28/02/2020 14:58

I love my pantry. When I'm worried I look in it.

Today we bought

3 multipacks of crisps - ready salted. I don't allow them usually but they're good when people are ill and have delicate appetites.
2 boxes of ice lollys - nice for sore throats.
5kg sugar - baking and DH takes it in tea.
2 boxes salted crackers
40 wash box of bio washing powder
2ltr disinfectant
2 boxes of those dried mushy peas. They were in the reduced section so in they went.
3 packets of nappies

NatoPMT · 29/02/2020 16:43

I’ve also bought tahini, fresh lemons and tinned chickpeas, going to try and make hummus- apparently home made hummus is good to freeze and my 8yo is vegetarian and needs the protein as she’s fussy
