There are threads on food generally and the medicine cupboard specifically, but what other non food things should one get?

So far I have:
Shampoo ( need more)
Conditioner
Baby wash
Soap
Some bubble bath
Hair bobbles

( Don't use shower gel, or hair dye I have seen mentioned, going grey disgracefully)

Deodorant for all of us
Toothpaste, adult and child
Children's toothbrushes ( need to get mine)
Sanpro

Laundry liquid, bio, coloured and white wash; need more, Aldi had sold out.
Need delicates detergent.
Don't use fabric conditioner or colour catchers
Have two washing machine cleaners left.

Washing up liquid
Washing up gloves
Spare brush
Sponges
Don't have a dishwasher.

Anti bacterial spray
Dettol/ disinfectant
Domestos.

Bin bags

AAA batteries
AA batteries
9v batteries for smoke alarm
Some button batteries, need to get a specific size.

Tin foil for cooking
Need sandwich bags and freezer bags

Loo rolls; could do with a few more.

Some vacuum bags

Thinking I should get some printer ink.

Blue tac
Duct tape
Parcel tape( had lots before)

Compost
Pots
Some seeds
Need canes to support.

Wind up solar radio
Solar power bank.
Water purification tablets.

Some cash.

Trainers for DC as they wreck them.

Yarn and threads of various colours.

Lightbulbs, need some for the kitchen.

Pens for DD for school
Pencils
Printer paper
Birthday cards for the children.
Some birthday presents.

What have I forgotten?

I'd have a think about any particular skills that would be handy but which you aren't strong at. Could be making bread, could be something technical. You know best.
I'm very big on morale boosters to keep you entertained and to pass the time. Obviously binge watching is fab for that but not always a runner. Again, it could be anything from card games to chess to hungry hippos to painting your nails to .... anything. Something silly. Something for everyone or for an individual. Boredom busters. Anxiety busters.

bellinisurge · 11/03/2019 15:42

Cool list, btw.

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/03/2019 19:07

Thanks. Inspired by the three day prep posts and reading other people's lists as well.

Better practise bread making as I am a bit rusty.

Mouthwash, disclosing tablets if your kids use them, interdental brushes, floss, sunscreen for kids & adults, laundry stain remover (if required), Sellotape for wrapping those presents, make up or skin care that you use plus make up/nail polish if you use them, perfume if you wear it & your current is nearly due for replacement, make up & nail polish remover if you use make up, whatever you use to clean the floor/windows.
Eye care stuff is anyone in family has glasses or contacts.
Gardening gloves if you don't already have some.

If more extreme feeling, landline phone which does not require electricity to work with a manual list of essential numbers.

BlackeyedGruesome · 12/03/2019 00:44

Land line phone needs to go on the list.

We have sunspray from last year as we always have some in stock as we burn earlier that the shops think.

Windows cleaned with vinegar, got that. Floors upstairs detail and washing up liquid, downstairs, antibac and kitchen roll/ sponge.

I have kitchen roll.

Non.makeup wearing.

Do need skin stuff for DD as she is getting to be a teen

Also need a hairbrush and comb for Ds.

Perfume rarely use. Ought to use it up.

I have hand cream as well. May get another one.

Need birthday candles.

Car needs fixing and need to buy a microwave. Need eye test but left that quite late.

So much to do, but everything helps.

Sewing/darning kit. Buttons. General clothing repair stuff.
Dubbing/waterproofing for coats and footwear.
Do you have garden tools, trowel, spade, fork etc? Also plastic trays for seedlings?
Read up on "guerilla gardening" or get a copy of "Apocalypse Chow" for advice

BlackeyedGruesome · 12/03/2019 10:29

Sewing, have a lot of thread in assorted colours, and needles, and a fabric stash. Darning, lots of yarn, not so many pure wool yards. Need a mushroom as nowhere seems to sell them any more.

Have gardening tools as gardened for church. No seed trays though. Plenty of mushroom boxes though for windowsill plants.

Got some coat waterproofing. Do not have waterproof boot as I do something to them to make them leak. Always the same foot. Must be driving related.

I want boots all the time as I am a bit wobbly at the best of times so they support ankles.

Need to get DD and ds New shoes.

Grew up poorish, (enough but not any extras) adult life has been precarious, short term contracts, periods of unemployment, ex up for redundancy a few times and been made redundant twice. We have never spent on lots of things so used to managing with what we have got, so useful for when things become short/ expensive.

eBay for darning mushrooms. I have one, needed it, couldn't put my hand on it so used DD's Boots vitamin gummies bottle. Or a lightbulb would work as long as you don't squeeze too hard Grin

LividLaughLove · 23/03/2019 16:35

I have all the stuff on your list UNTIL washing machine cleaner.

Gone my entire adult life without knowing it was a thing, despite having dishwasher cleaner up the wazoo. Now have it on subscribe n save, so thanks.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 25/03/2019 22:16

More loo roll

More cash

Corded landline phone, not cordless which will lose power once the charging unit runs out.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 25/03/2019 22:22

Matches and/or refillable lighter and fluid
Candles/storm lamp/oil lamp

WD40
Vaseline

Wind up (or solar) USB charger

BlackeyedGruesome · 25/03/2019 23:45

Corded landline, aggghhh I forgot about that.

Also still need a microwave.

And to do an Amazon order.

Things to keep you warm (also useful for non-Brexit winter issues).

Wool blankets (I keep an eye on ebay for bargains & store extras in the car)
Thermal underwear for everyone
Warm hats/scarves/socks for everyone
Hot water bottles

Also, consider a head torch or two. We recently had a power outage, and although we had loads of torches and lanterns, it was a nightmare trying to do things like change nappies, prepare food, where I needed clear light and both hands free.

BlackeyedGruesome · 02/04/2019 10:46

We have lots of stuff to keep warm with as the heating is buggered.

I have also noticed that we have a stock of loo brushes, much to half of mumsnet's disgust!

My list : microwave
Phone corded
Two mobile phones for DC.
Head torch for outdoor cooking.
Outdoor cooking stuff.
String
More white vinegar for window cleaning.
More batteries as just refilled the tooth brushes and used most of a pack.
Seedling trays
If I have time, wood for a project I am planning.
Cash.
More bog roll. DD has used loads recently.
More antibac.
Hoover bags
Lightbulbs as it is very dim in the kitchen now.
Still got the dreaded Amazon order to do.

Check medicine thread and stocks.

sockatoe · 03/04/2019 14:36

I'm assuming you have a generator to run your electrics off?

BlackeyedGruesome · 03/04/2019 14:59

Or possibly solar panels...

OP posts:
sockatoe · 03/04/2019 16:10

Do they run to a battery bank then? Most panels feed back into the grid, so even on a sunny day, if there's a power cut, you have no power Confused
