Hi all,

Following recent developments in brexit no deal seems the most likely outcome.

I would like to think we could make a success of it but then I don’t have a crystal ball so I want to be prepared. Should I start prepping? If so where should I start?

I’m in a fortunate position financially so (within reason) budget won’t be too much of an issue. Please tell me what I should do?

Most retail supply chains have already stockpiled for non perishable and frozen items. Over the last 6 months additional supply chains have been sourced for perishable goods by all the major groups. So although there may be the occasional availability issue I don’t think you would need to stockpile too much at home.
Prices have already increased across most major retail outlets which is in preparation for the anticipated cost of goods increase (you’ve probably already noticed this bit).
Brexit is so complicated, it’s impossible for retailers to anticipate everything (for e.g. consider how many Europeans are driving the lorries from a-b) however they have ensured contingencies are in place wherever possible.
I would suggest just having more of your ‘can’t live without’ items (to play safe) and filling your freezer if you are in a position too?

Sainsburys chief exec said only four weeks ago that they don't have the capacity to store more than a few days of food and neither does anyone else.

Thank you all I am so pleased with the amount of really helpful responses on here. I would feel silly mentioning this to people irl and also as I said earlier I don’t want people to come knocking on my door if it all goes wrong

Hi all I have started by getting some tea lights and tins of baked beans and soup and some tinned pineapple (would have bought these anyway but not in as large quantities)

We had a Brexit meal tonight to try. Falafel from freezer, hummus made with canned chickpeas like we usually do, couscous with nuts and dried fruit, roast butternut squash and a steam pack of green veg. Was good, we added plenty of spices. We'll be farting well tonight!!

I've definitely made mistakes over storage, if I had time I'd be unboxing and bagging everything, but we're out of the country on Friday until mid May, so my time is up.

Good luck pfrench. Are you working away? [Nosy]

pfrench · 21/02/2019 12:16

No, going for fun. Always planned to do this before our daughter starts school. Timing chosen to avoid thatvrepulsive toad on TV banging on about independence day.

BlackeyedGruesome · 21/02/2019 13:17

excellent. have fun. enjoy it before getting tied down to school term times.
